Which is fair for a side third bottom with 3 wins. More so when you take into account the other factors I mentioned (much larger than average number of slippery/wet games compared to last year or our competition this year, large number of injuries to key personnel, little ability to train as a cohesive group despite a large number of new players and strategy).

Under RL we had more wins but still scored poorly. We played a style of football which was horrible to watch and proved ineffective against good opposition at the end of the year. As the players learn the game plan under JLo, how to play with each other and develop from kids, they will improve on that dramatically.

I’m not seeing a more attacking game style.
I am seeing more importance placed on a well placed pass to maintain possession.
I think there seems to be freedom given to more players to make the play.

One thing which i have banged on about for ages ,even when RL was here .
Have a look at the replay and count the number of times we went forward and it was man on man.shooters fabulous gaol a case in point,get's a bit of space and whella ,admittedly he was on the 50, then got behind his man then showed pace and skill to drill it deliberately.
Grard Healy (i think he loves us for long time)one of the guys said well look at the pies injury list ,Gerard barked "well I'll stand freos injury list against anyone ."
They thought the tag was taken off Sidebotttom halfway through the third ,then he cut loose ,no idea,but he nearly won it for them.

We had Lobb, Tabs and Fyfe in the forward line on the weekend, which is a fair bit of fire power.

The same time last year, albeit it was round 15, our forward line was:

HF: Tucker, Walters, Brayshaw
F: Switkowski, Cox, Matera

Looked to me against Collingwood we positioned well and defended hard in the middle of the corridor not allowing the pies to run rampant through there. Then looked instinctive on attack when forcing a turnover and held a structure in front of the ball so we had something to kick to. This is showing you can still defend hard without flooding numbers back behind the ball. When coming out of defence we are looking to pass it around a bit with precision before freeing up the running player to kick long down the line or change the angle and hit up a target in the middle. The part I like is the quick instinctive movement when winning the ball back and enough numbers to kick to without all players being sucked into the contest or behind the ball.

Some good points made there, but 1 thing not really explored from the game is the fact that Collingwood haven't got an overly tall forward line, so our injury decimated defense actually matched up pretty well on them, and allowed our defenders to play a bit more of their natural game.

I'm not sure i can go along with RM.

Colonwood took a number of marks in the forward 50, particularly close to goal. They weren't exactly short up forward. Mihocek is 192 cm, Stephenson 190 cm, Hoskin-Elliot 186 cm plus they had Grundy pushing forward for most of the match at 203 cm and Sidebottom likewise (only multiple goal scorer for Collingwood) at 184 cm (ok he's a bit of a shorta*** compared to the others)

They didn't have someone like Jeremy Cameron as a lead up target but they did have a tall enough forward line. They also had 3 more scoring shots than we did but they didn't kick straight (Isn't it really nice to see Freo 'outskilling' a big name Vic side even if in only one a aspect)

I think the difference this week was a much improved performance from our mids and the building confidence of the defenders to move the ball quickly to players presenting themselves as outlets.

They had Darcy Cameron in the forward line as well, he’s 204cm but Cox took him completely out of the game so you didn’t notice.
