TOPIC: The good and the not so good vs Suns

Thanks Gough. I agree.

Cerra had a great first quarter. 7 disposals but then only 4 more for the rest of the game and Brayshaw only had 13. If you're going to be critical of Blakely's disposal you have to say the same for Brayshaw. He's a terrible shot for goal and misses easy targets by foot. His tackling is great though.

Been critical of Tucker before but as was said in a previous post, he's stepped up this year, so maybe that will be the case for these two in the future. Trouble is we need them to be doing it now.

CA ...Should I add " Well may Clive save the FFC,...but nothing will save Matera....!"

Maybe not....

Point being..enoughs enough!. Put Mikey back in the forward line , give Peters nephew an extended spell. Let the young fellows rotate through the middle,...

Sooner we get them in there, the better i(e Cerra ,Valente, Serong, Fredericks.)

Logue was very good I thought.
Bayshaw not so good.
Matera? not sure what he does.
I'd also like to see Valente in the side, but would expect Acres in next week and I'm sure that will settle us down a bit.
I'd still keep giving Bewley a go. He has plenty of upside.
Get Sean Darcy back in and let Lobb go back into mobile forward action.

The Good;
The amount of Freo fans getting around on the GC, I’ve been to the last 2 games and surprised at the number of fans up here. The players are showing up ready to play just appear not quite good enough against the side we have been playing. Young was epic and Serong will play a lot of games this year. Hogan and Taberner worked hard and quite well together, the supply just wasn’t good enough for them to really impact the game.
The Bad;
Our players around stoppages appear to slow to make decisions with quick handballs and first options, the likes of Brayshaw, Bewley, Cerra and Tucker are getting there hands on it but are to slow on the quick release and it would bobble from a tackle out to the Suns who’s players are quicker to react on the spread.
Desperately need Pearce and Hamling back so Ryan and Logue can be freed up to intercept and spread on offence. This was clear from being at the game as they are tied up playing on the key forwards. Wilson gives no effort and is useless. I’d be happy to play Lobb the sole ruckman, albeit he loses a lot of taps, Darcy doesn’t offer enough and we are better off with an extra midfielder in our 22 to make up for our lack of quality in there. We just have to be patient, the loss of Hill and Langdon is really noticeable as in the last quarter we don’t have the players to role the dice and get the ball moving fast when bogged down at half back. Hopefully a fit Liam Henry and Sam Sturt will help by getting up the ground and help our game quicken up going forward.

Can't see how Acres will come straight in without any match practise.

I think it's been understated how good Serong was on debut. The only person who spent more time on the bench was Fyfe yet Serong did so much more than many other players.

He lead the team for tackles and looked clean and composed with the ball. He moved through traffic well and laced some nice kicks to leading players while on the burst. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet from this point forward along with Young.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Good-Never gets any plaudits, in fact people here often think he should be dropped, but I thought Hughes was great yesterday. Had the second most disposals in the side, took six marks, some with great courage and his disposal efficiency was great.
Bad-Wilson. If he's not fit give him some match practise in the twos. He's a shadow of the player he was and at the moment we can't afford to carry too many players.

Matt Rowell was hard to stop ... would love to have picked him up last year. At just 18 and looking every bit a player from the 50s who will probably win a Brownlow sooner than later.

Good-we scored more than either Geelong or Melbourne, and one of them got to be a winner. And they were both playing at home.

Can someone clarify - did we give away a free shot on goal for rushing the ball through? And if so, what is the rule? Is it something like, "Dean Margetts may give up to 2 ridiculous frees against Fremantle in any game, and 4 in a derby"?

What was weird was that in the last quarter we were suddenly the umpires darlings.

It’s the never-gets-old umpires conspiracy theory, RR, that Margetts, Dalgleish and the rest of the bastardly crew are predictably mean, showing clear favour to the opposition for the first 3 quarters, then giving Freo a few soft ones in the final quarter (usually when the job is done), to bring some balance to the stats.

Mainly Margetts he’s good for a goal a game at least. Take the Conca penalty as evidence. While very technically there, my god it was soft.
Umpires haven’t been the reason we have lost any of our games.

rogerrocks - he didnt pay deliberate.
He paid a hold against Conca despite Conca being in front and also being held..
It was a bizare decision thats only Margetts could pull of with a straight face.
I liked JLOs lipsync - It was something along the lines of F--K Off Dean...
