The press in Victoria have no ability to look beyond their own circumstances. They have no comprehension of what it means for WA to have no community transmission. Once again in pursuit of their own means, they would have us risk this for the benefit of themselves.
While community transmission is present on the east coast, I couldn’t give a toss about the AVFL. I would much prefer to see local recreational activities resume ahead of a small minority of professional athletes.
Listening to Duff and Quarters the other day, they suggested the WAFL could only afford to resume if crowds were allowed. This will only happen if we continue to be virus free.
Mark my words four weeks after the commencement of the season the political pressure will mount for WA to relax it’s borders. NSW’s premier is already vocalising this. I listed to the press conference with the Victorian premier the other day, one of the first questions asked was. When will crowds be allowed to watch?
I’m a footy fan and footy is low on what’s important right now. There is absolutely no way that anyone can convince me, that any hub system Whatsoever could’ve got up if it didn’t include Victoria.

The VFL presented a position they were fully aware McGowan couldn’t and wouldn’t agree too. The east coast media is now presenting this as McGowans fault.
If Victoria and NSW were virus free, do you think they would be opening borders?
We would be quarantining in Melbourne ready to start the season there.

Sounded to me like people from the WA government spent a lot of time not trying to prevent a pandemic to genuinely work something out with the AFL, only to be reminded that the AFL are intertwined with the Victorian government when they decided to go against the best option for the local one.

The Victorian govt Dept of Football would never have seriously contemplated anything other than Melbourne running anything.

I couldn't give a stuff about footy right now, and have no interest in watching games that mean nothing. The season is a more bodged, more compromised, and skewed towards a Victorian result than ever.

I'd prefer we keep covid out permanently, so we in WA can get back to normal as soon as possible. Keep the border closed. Stuff them, they don't give a rats about us, and I couldn't give a rats about their mickey mouse money making football-related carnival.

Whilst there are new cases still happening in NSW and Vic McGowan is right to keep the borders shut. The health of people is more important than professional sport.

If the AFL were truly interested in a level playing field they would have put in a hub here and in Adelaide, where there are no new cases not in Melbourne that still has new cases.

This isnt about player safety or community safety it is about keeping the 10 clubs in vic happy and getting revenue in. As usual the interstate clubs are an after thought.

in any case it is a compromised season and will mean nothing who ever is premier will be asterisked in history, if they had player and community welfare as the priority the whole thing would be shelved for a season.

They can have a go at Mark all they want, 86% of our state's population back his stand on the hard borders. I'm not sure if they get that, Mark's views are our views - I would've been much more colourful with my adjectives when pointing out the stuff-ups of those bozos east of SA.

The only thing about all this that has truely shocked me is that the WA and SA Teams have not been made to stay on Cruise ships anchored off the Gold Coast. Figure out that!

I'm with you, Drubbing, especially the AFL being the Victorian Government's Department of Football. Quote yesterday from Gillon McLachlan when asked what would happen if the MCG was not available for the GF: it will be played at Docklands because "we have a commitment to play it in this state".

Huh? Where did that come from? When was that commitment made? Between who? What benefits changed hands? How come we've never heard that the AFL deal is not so much that the game be played at the G for the next millennium as that it will be played in Victoria? WTF???

And, yes, the season is bodgied, compromised and skewed. The simple answe is to make it a tournament, or a carnival, or anything but a premiership. Then I wouldn't really care where it was played, and I think we'd enjoy it a whole lot more

Call it off. I would honestly rather go and watch the B grade amateurs than get invested in some half-arsed Vic-centric carp.

B grade footy is very entertaining!
So much so that the VAFL would have even less interest if we could get our footy fix at the local oval.

I would love to see WA remain virus free, and in two months WAFL teams playing in front of stands full of parochial WA footy lovers. A rebirth of the competition that truly ignited my love of footy.
While the VAFL continues to play in front of stagnant empty hub stadiums with canned crowds.
Listened to Hard Ball Gets podcast today. They seemed to think the competition would go ahead even if a player tests positive.
The business of football is deluded about its place in the scheme of things.

Victoria is a theorized inferiority complex normally attributed to states of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, such as lying for their own agenda's, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for stature endeavour's and social shortcomings.
