Tragic AFL bias? Not this time. 3 years 11 months ago #15

Tragic
Mac, As I child I was constantly ridiculed by my school mates because I barracked for the basket case of the competition. Barracked for mighty Maroons during their 49 year drought.
I listen with little interest to those who criticise the now Mighty Lions.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

I have every intention of living long enough to repeat the story with the Dockers.

I remember Perth supporters being the ugliest in the mid 60's. Did not shock me at all that Lathlain Park took in a new generation of sanctimonious swill.

Eddie McGuire says Matthew Pavilich is stupid for complaining that "WA-based clubs were growing tired with the Victorian-centric AFL".

Apparently, according to Eddie (who played how many top-level footy games?), the problem is "...people come in, they don’t understand the history, they don’t know the contracts, it’s blissful naivety and they say stupid things". He says WA footy has to “get over it”.

He also reckons Collingwood (and Richmond) are actually disadvantaged by playing home games at the MCG! He honestly believes that Collingwood probably only play 2 or 3 games at the MCG a year with actual home ground advantage.

What a w***er.

He probably thinks it's a stupid idea. Unless it's Victorian bone broth.

Could use his skull for bone broth - but it would probably not taste that good because you would have to use his whole head because he is just a bone head.

So Adelaide have trained in a group of more that two. How shocking! What will the VFL do about it? Tossers.

I’ve been missing for awhile. With everything that’s happened over the last months, footy hasn’t really seemed that important to me.
This is an issue that has riled me up enough to comment again.
The AFL is an absolutely hypocritical and disgraceful organisation, that is clearly and unequivocally Victorian. I’ve had a gut full of them.
The fact that they can move so quickly, to introduce a rule to limit training to two people, because of sooky, whiney, bitchy privileged power Victorian clubs is ridiculous. This is a circumstance no individual, club or organisation has control over, it is predicated by government.
Then within a few days turn around and propose a competition in which, clubs are unable to participate in, without moving to another state. These same people now fail to see this as an unfair disadvantage to those clubs.
They are now going to investigate Adelaide for breaking this rule.
WA Players will now have to spend an extended period away from their homes, family and friends.
Two weeks ago this was way too much to impose on Vic players when a hub system was proposed. The only hub even worth contemplating involved Victoria.
All of this in spite of the fact, at this point in time WA, SA and the NT may be lucky enough to have eliminated the virus.
Why in God’s name would you begin a program in the state, with what appears to have the, lowest probability of being able to contain the spread of this bloody thing.
Who in the AFL can guarantee WA will even be willing to open its state border during this proposed season. How can they guarantee that clubs coming to WA won’t have to quarantine for two weeks before each game. They can’t even promise the WA will get their return home games.
With the current situation in WA, with the right testing, who knows maybe before the end of a season we could even be in a position to play in front of fans.
I love footy and The Fremantle Dockers but I love my state more. There is no way I want to sacrifice the safety, security and prosperity of WA for football. I want even less to sacrifice this for a self absorbed and self important organisation like the AFL.

Just watched Ross Lyon on his podcast with Damian Barrett.
I’m not a Lyon basher or lover but after watching this, it is clear why he didn’t connect to the Dockers faithful.
He also missed a prime opportunity to hook into a prime motivator. They used the anywhere anytime mantra to great success during 2013 and never captured that purpose again.
We should always play with an us against them mentality.
The truth is we are the smallest club in Perth with the WA footy power brokers firmly in West Coasts corner. Then the true power base located in Melbourne. If we are to win we need to overcome this.

How about varied premiership points allocation per win,

A home win is worth 4 premiership points
An away win not fixtured at the winning teams home ground is worth 4 premiership points
An away win fixtured at the winning teams home ground is worth 3 premiership points

Or how about we forget about 2020 being a premiership year (as I think Shane suggested), call it the Footy World Series and have a dirty great big 16-week tournament in wherever can best mount it (maybe starting in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Qld and then everyone moving to Melbourne at the pointy end.

Much easier to organise, a whole lot less angst and no asterisk at the end of it all. I reckon the players, and the public, would buy it much better than the three-legged dog the AFL is furiously trying to cobble together now.

No one wants to win this years flag, it's going to have a huge asterisk hanging over it.

So Freo are a shoe-in this year.
