Yeah CA, big marking forwards can really add a winning dimension to a team.

Freo has pretty much had big marking forwards that can be thrown into the fray. Unfortunately, those big marking forwards have generally been played at Peel or across the half back line (or being semi-murdered by our medicos) but yeah, we've got a few.

I don't think our fitness staff, coaches & medico's of the past few years could tell the difference between a ruckman, tall forward/ defender and a fleet footed midfielder, small forward/defender. That's where our problems started and finished.

Whether we get him or not I don't know, but the idea that we or anyone would draft Jackson as a ruckman is off track imo. Yes, that's where he played in the AA carnival, but at this stage he's only 199cm and nowhere near enough tall to play as a top ruckman. His future is as a forward(unless he grows a lot more)and occasional ruck work.
He's similar to the King twins who were drafted by the Suns and Saints last year in his athleticism and marking ability. They both play as forwards and are actually 3 cms taller.

Brodie Grundy is 203cm, nic nat is 201cm. Not everyone has to be 210cm + to be main ruck.. Especially if they are as good at ground level as jackson is.. If his centre bounce work is solid then its like having an extra midfielder at the clearance

So did Polly Farmer if we want to keep going back. Polly would be have been the size of some midfielders nowadays.

I'd be interested to know of any good ruckmen under 200 cm. May well be some though. And you'd be asking an awful lot of a young kid who is already giving away height to then compete physically against some like Grundy who weighs 100kg or Natanui who weighs 110kg.

But who knows, he could keep growing and become the next Grundy. That's who they like to compare him to.

So far as I can see both Henry and Jackson are now being touted before our pick seven and ten. Prior to the trade period neither were being included in the top twelve.
Is anyone suspicious of various Vic clubs contacting their media buddies to try and engineer pressure on us to trade away picks?
Jackson is the one player that I would love to see in purple after the draft but I’m with Biz on this one we may have to risk losing him and maintain more high picks.
I would like to see some comments from us about how we really rate him, and will look to have an offer available in a couple of years.
