It's not unthinkable that the AFL are trying to keep their major investor happy and it's difficult for Channel 7 to sell advertising on for Fremantle games merely on the promise of JLo.

I'm sure they'd tell you it was the 2013 grand final but this is Harris and Rosich's legacy. They saw a problem, addressed it and made it markedly worse.

The AFL are simply reminding Freo of where they stand in the comp, and in the TV ratings.

No in Victoria wants to watch GC play another interstate team in the best time slot every week.

I don't think it matters that much where the team comes from. I'll watch Fremantle put in any performance they're prepared to put their name to but I'm not going to watch St Kilda play Sydney just because they're on in a good timeslot.

At the turn of the century, the biggest game of the season was Port Adelaide v Brisbane. Everyone loved the game and no one cared which state the teams were based in.

I agree with most people on here. Our fixtures are crap. I hate Sunday afternoon games, too.
Not sure why they run footy tipping - as clearly the AFL act as if they know who will win every game and what all the good games will be. So they must already know the future.
I thought we beat several of the top teams this year (GWS, Collingwood, Brisbane) so why would anybody want to watch these games, on a Friday night. I have no idea!!!! Comments made like 'upset of the season', in our games, but the AFL just does what they want.
All our games were not terrible -yet the AFL acts as if we never win and our players are boring. I guess they don't know our captain is the current captain of the All Australian squad or won the Brownlow.
If this was a normal workplace, people would make official complaints about possible discrimination.
So over the disgraceful behaviour of the AFL.
Wish they would start treating all teams equally and their supporters.
As for being given the second Derby, when the weather is terrible and a lot of the good players are out injured....dont get me started.

"a lot of the good players are out injured....dont get me started."

Yeah, don't get me started on that. In fact we already did on the Harley Bennell thread. I really don't think you can blame the AFL for our continued run of season ending injuries.

Has any team got a perfect draw? I thought not.

Things could be a lot worse:

I think a completely random fixture (both in terms of who plays who and in what time slot) would actually serve the AFL better in the long run, rather than the same old ‘blockbusters’ every year.

I would like to hear the afl's reasoning to why the eagles get the home game for the first derby of the season 2 years running.

On the news tonight the club pres was okay with it, basically saying it's what we deserve after years of poor results. He expects improvement and with that would come a change in fixturing.
Sounds sensible to me.

The VFL pretending to be an Australian football league is as credible as an all American baseball comp calling itself the World Series

My favourite bit is Weagles requesting no Thursday night games and getting one anyway.
By far the worst timeslot, and wonderfully easy to ignore on telly, so all good by me.

And the Weagles finally got their wish to play ON ANZAC Day, even if it is a day fixture in Tassie. And Len Hall game gets shunted to the day after ANZAC Day so Brisbane and Port get night games on the day itself. How that can be justified I don't know since the Len Hall game has been a highlight for over 20 years yet Brisbane and Port get the honour of playing their commemorative game on the night of ANZAC Day.

CA, the club pres spent a few years being ok with the coach that drove the boring game style, so no surprises in that statement.

The first 2 letters in the word "Friday" match the first two letters in the word "Freo", so Freo on Friday should be Friggen Frightening when it happens.
Make it happen Presi.
