TOPIC: Hamish Brayshaw? Worth a look?

Dark Knight Hamish Brayshaw? Worth a look? 4 years 5 months ago #1

Dark Knight
Currently unsigned by WCE, couldn’t do any worse but throw him on the list.

Creating a bit of rivalry between the brothers might make them both better....

Finished off the season well with the reserves.

Hamish & Andy. The team store would have an absolute field day.

There's a bit to the Clokes abut the Brawshaws. I'm pretty sure one of them is good but I'm not sure about the others, nor which one.

Hard pass. We have plenty of others who are bit part midfielders in the two's pushing for selection.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Just out of curiosity, who do you think we should pick up with pick 79 or 83 Biz, is there anyone worth taking a punt on?

purple kit - the problem we have is Im pretty sure we only have 4 spots on the list currently available with the commitment the club made earlier in the year to put Giro on the main list.
If we use all our picks then somebody else has to get delisted or Giro stays a rookie..

We don't need him, anyway he plays golf with a wannabe dentist that should automatically exclude him.

There's plenty who are likely to slip through to those late picks and have shown a fair bit of talent. The likes of Trey Ruscoe, Jaxon Prior, Ryley Garcia, Tyrone Thorne, Jai Jackson and Chad Warner all showed a lot this year and are a chance to last until late in the draft. That's just a small number of WA players let alone what's available in other states.

I can't see Hamish Brayshaw making it as an AFL footballer from what he's done so far. He doesn't seem to do anything particularly well and we have plenty of our own players who need more opportunity still on the list.

Demo1, I know it depends on where a bid comes for Henry, ideally it would be after our pick 10, if it’s at 11 then our next pick would be 79 as all our other picks would be used to match it, so regardless of if we have 4 or 5 picks we’ll then be drafting someone with 79. So I am genuinely interested in Biz’s thoughts on who we might roll the dice on, it’s either that or we trade out a future pick to get back into the second or third round after we have matched the Henry bid.

Thanks Biz

I'd think Ruscoe could go in the 40's/50's but is a decent chance to last to our pick as a very good half back or big bodied mid.

Garcia was pushing picks in the 30's before his injury which I think will see him drop down a lot of draft boards due to his small size. He reminds me a lot of a tougher Lachie Neale with a bit more speed, maybe a Dion Prestia type. How he recovers from his knee will be huge but at his young age, I don't think he'll lose any speed/agility. He should be a very good get late for a club.

Prior is someone who will be on the periphery for most clubs and I'd only see a WA club as grabbing him since he's probably undersized to play KPD at AFL level. With his dad on the coaching staff, I think we could rookie him or grab him late which isn't a bad choice depending on who's available. I do like what he can do.

Thorne is an interesting one who could go earlier or later with his draft range varying depending on who needs what. He'll get picked up but it could be a rookie pick as he is quite small and will take some development time.

Warner is a plug and play mid who probably lacks a bit of speed but does the job week in and week out. He's a good clearance midfielder and uses it well but I don't see any sides in the East being fans. He's probably the next best clearance mid in WA behind Robertson.

Jai Jackson is probably in a similar boat as Warner but with a little more speed and a bigger body. He hasn't been quite as prolific but probably has a lot more scope for improvement and a higher ceiling as an AFL player. His U18 Championships were solid without being outstanding but he probably didn't get as much midfield time as he would have liked.

Then there's also our other potential academy selections in Isaiah Butters and LenoThomas who are likely late bids or rookie picks.

Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

Warner's agility is good. He tested at 8.203 seconds for the agility course at the combine - compare to the "winner" Hayden Young's 7.94 and everyone's favourite Dylan Stephens' 8.245.

He also did an impressive yo-yo test with 21.6, compared to the record, held by Andrew Slayshaw, of 22.4 and the best performer at this year's combine with 21.8. He also did an around-the-world and a pretty freaky walking-the-dog.

If Warner is there with our last pick, we could do much much worse. He's a great kid, terrific no-nonsense footballer and his pedigree is sound.
