What do you think about this?
This phantom draft seems more accurate than the ESPN one.
I would love to be able to use pick 7 & 10 prior to any bid on Henry which in all likelihood unless Kevin Sheedy is around shouldnt happen (think Blakely last year)..
Our young Squad is looking alot better with say Jackson, Robertson & Henry in it.
It would look even better with Sharp/Taylor/Rivers or similar there aswell.
Could we go all in on this draft and trade away next years first pick or more for 3 picks around the 15-25 mark?

IMHO
I see Cal Twomey's phantom has picks 1,2&10 all from Vic Metro
And 4,5,6,7 and 8 all from Vic Country.

Who won the championship again??
Makes you wonder how much he watches the non-Vics.

On results alone, I think our boys might be a little better than phantom ratings reflect.

On another note, according to the "Grill", Lukey J is a self confessed docker.....(.duly noted)

This could be true. Oscar Allen and Aaron Naughton seemed to be a bit under-rated in there years as well not just by the phantom drafts but by all the recruiters.

That wasn't a phantom draft, that was Cal Twomey's top 30 players after the draft combine. It's not particularly accurate as to how players will fall on draft day and is also just his opinion on player rankings. There are other player ratings who I pay more respect to but he's generally about right.

As for the rating of WA players, they won the championships but I've mentioned before it was due to them having a more solid squad with fewer underage/fringe players getting a shot. The U18 Champ results were pretty close too.

Someone who's phantom drafts and ratings of players fall in line with my own is Chris Doerre who has released his post trade period draft here.

He's tried to take into account academy bids etc as well as pick the top 40. He's predicting the worse case scenario for us with a Henry bid before 10 and none of the other West Aussies being around for our next pick which has been pushed to 24. You would think if that bid came before our pick 10 then we'd do some wheeling and dealing to grab other clubs picks and ensure we don't have to use all of 10 matching it. It's tough to predict how that scenario plays out though.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

That's a nightmare result for us - pun intended. That bloke he has at 7 is a turnover machine. Will Day goes alright but sheesh.

The draft has become unnecessarily complex and part of the reason some old buggers like me are wandering away. I hanker for the days of father-sons and zones as free hits in the third round. Just the idea that someone would make a bid for Henry is giving me the tomtits.

Same as Jackson. He's probably the only Freo supporter in the draft. He's trained with us. He's goofy as ****. He's from Willeton ffs. Immediate walk-up start for Freo. Anything else is an unlubricated finger in the date of all that is good and right about footy, about community, connectedness and the tribal nature of competitive sport.

Geez, Mish you gotta give us a warning before conjuring that kind of imagery.
You’re not wrong, though.

Lachie Ash a turn over machine? His coach is getting him to do the kick outs so he can’t be that bad unless his coach is trying to throw games

Well, I realise they are just highlights from one game - against the mighty East Fremantle Colts (featuring some other Western Australian kiddies) - but in this little package:

Clicky

in the first 30 seconds I see a kick to a 1 on 3 and an out on the full under limited pressure.

At 1.04 he goes on a dashing run, hits a brick wall and just kind of coughs it up.

Plenty of good stuff too, where he actually appears to have a plan when he goes off on a frolic and he has an undeniably tasty kick but it's like old skool Freo on meth - giving with one hand and taking with another.

Apologies if I sound like I'm beating the kid up. He can plainly play and has already achieved a great deal, but dashing half back flankers who excite are not what I advocate picking with your first pick.

Fair enough. Everyone sees things differently. I would say he is a bit similar to Andrew McGrath that went number 1 a couple of years ago to the Bombers. He started at half back and is now going into the middle a bit.

I'm not sure that's the best video to back up your point about him turning it over as Ash nailed the vast majority of his disposals and with some daring run and carry which are things we're desperate for atm.

He was playing across half back in the Championships as a distributor and to orchestrate Vic Country attacks forward which he did fantastically. I'd have no problem if we picked him up in the draft opposed to a West Aussie with his role clearly being a move into the midfield.

Ash is CC's nephew - I'd take Jackson myself.
