Jackson might be gettable at 22. Remember Tim English. Teams are winning flags with serviceable, competent, honest ruckmen. Collingwood and Melbourne aren't winning flags. It's midfielders; gun midfielders. Kemp.

Jackson would be a good get, but in reality he’d be competing with Hodor for the Ruck position and Lobb for the forward/ruck role. Barring injury I can’t see him in the starting 22 for at least another four years (Lobb is 26 now) so if he slipped to us at 7 or 10 I’d take him but think he’d be spending quite a while at peel until someone gets injured. If GWS were to somehow get him, they can develop him for a few years and we can chase him later. Sharp and Rivers are the ones we need to replace the speed we have lost, along with Henry and Taylor. Which is why I’d be happy to flip 7 for 14&17 or even 15&20 if either Geelong or Gold Coast are targeting a specific top 10 player.

I've seen more of Western than Brandon Walker at this point but I think they'll both be first round picks. Western is a bit smaller at the moment but he has so much talent and x-factor, if he grows a few cm's he''ll be an absolute jet for us.

Brandon's twin brother Chris is a pretty good chance of being drafted too although later in the draft. Kobe Farmer might be a rookie pick but there is still a full year before we have to make these choices. There's a lot of options and reasons to be excited as Freo fans in what is on the horizon.

In terms of our picks for next year, I was happy before we threw away potentially pick 19 for Aish as we'll almost certainly need those points. I'm not sure we'll be able to get all our academy picks next year without trading more of our valuable players next season

Keep it simple. Use the picks we now have (7, 10 and 22) to go for the best player available at that pick using performance observations, stats and KPI's. Some would add 'and what suits our perceived needs' and 'local talent' as criteria but I think these are secondary.
I suspect this simple approach is not very popular. We love to complicate and manipulate the selection formula.

Yeah Robertson might not be that good a kick but he is a competitive, tough, clearance player with clean hands. Sometimes we focus on what a player can't do compared to what he can do. Played through the last game with an serious injury. Will do whatever it takes. Solid pick.

Lachie Ash at 7, Robertson at 10 then match a big mid for Henry is what I am hoping.. bring in some serious speed with Ash and Henry and a good clearance player in Robertson.
