I still do not understand what the point is of contracts. If clubs are continually ripping them up at the request of players (for trivial reasons, not genuine) what are they saying to their members? "Sorry! The players you were looking forward to having play for our team, are not going to stick to the contract they signed."
How many paid up members and fans in general, have been stuck in a contract/job of some kind and slogged it out. I am sure a lot of these people are not even paid half of the starting AFL wage. But they honour their word and complete their contract.
I just feel it's a bit of a joke and some of these clubs need to have some gumption.
What on Earth is next year's trade going to be like! I can only imagine the complete farce.

Over at Saintsational, the rumour is:
Saints give 12 and 18 to Port
Port's 10th pick and saints first pick next year to Freo.
Hill, Ryder, Howard to Saints

Funnily enough, the St Kilda fans are not happy.
This is their rationale; hard to disagree:
"A 26yo worthy of a frdp
A 32yo ruckman well past his best
A 23yo who was in the SANFL in the last 4 rounds

For 3 first round draft picks

Horrendous"

I'll go with Browski - sort of.
SK 1st pick 2019, SK 1st pick 2020 + something else (pick preferred).
Bell knows he can't justify to all the supporters only one first round pick which is below what was initially offered. Bell would lose face like you wouldn't believe. His ancestry wouldn't allow it. He would hold Brad to his contract under those circumstances.

Ideal situation. If we end up with pick 7, 10, 22 and some late picks a bid for Henry after pick 10 and before 22 will see us live trade pick 22 this year for a pick next year. That mean we make up the points for Henry with multiple later picks... we need to stock up on later picks though and probably should of asked for a couple from the Dees.

So instead of 6 and a second round next year it’s 10 and a first round next year. I’ll take that

I think we will trade 7 for a later 1st round and early second

So in 2 years we’ve lost 3 midfielders in their prime for a net gain of Lobb, Hogan, Conca, Colyer and a couple of top 10 draft picks. JLo, over to you. You’ve got a stable of top end talent.

I'll accept 10 & next year's first rounder. Sounds good to me.

I would have preferred 6 and next years second round pick, considering the saints managed to flip 6 for 12 & 18 + a future second round pick would have seen us go into the draft with picks 7, 12, 18 & 22 plus Melbourne and saints second round picks next year to match bids with.

When does actually winning games come into the equation?

When all the drafted 18 year olds become 25?

In the meantime you're belted evey game.

Fremantle Giants.

Yeah PurpleK sounds abit better but im sure cats said a few days ago they were offering any takers a swap for a top ten for their 14 and 17,.
So 7 (1644pts) for those 2( added=2186 pts) leaves us 10,14,17,22 plus a future 1st rnder to go with our own.
Sure we dont have an inside top 10 pick, so it just comes down to who we want and where we think they will fall.
At least we may have an option there to increase our number of 1sts.

Don’t get me wrong 10 and next years first is still an acceptable outcome, it’s just there are about 6 decent WA players who will go in the top 30 this year and getting as many as we can seems a good option, given we’ll have 7 spots to fill once Hill goes. we could have potentially flipped both 6 & 7 and ended up with 12, 14, 17, 18 & 22 and landed most of the ones we wanted.
