Did anyone catch the West’s editor on 6PR this afternoon? He was smug, arrogant and condescending; which qualifies him perfectly to edit West Coast’s masthead.
He refused to concede that the front page was a calamitous screw up, insisting that he made the right choice. The Rioli story, he said, is bigger than Fyfe winning a Brownlow because it has a social angle (he didn’t elaborate on what this angle was but it sounded like he was trying to make some tenuous link with the scourge of drug abuse).
So that, folks, is the reasoning behind resurrecting a weeks-old, well-flogged story with a pointless poll instead of giving the front page to the guy from the wrong team who won the Brownlow.
He also sounded delighted that the front page has prompted outrage, so expect more provocative front pages designed to trigger a response.
Oh, and there will be a Fyfe hero poster in the paper tomorrow, so, all good, right?
