6pr reckons Sumich was never in the running and Fremantle have been talking to Longmuir from the middle of the season, with the view that he would take over from Lyon at the end of next season or this one. They have only interviewed Sumich and delayed announcing Longmuir to make it look like they have followed due process. The club then leaked that Sumich interviewed poorly but have tried to intimate the leak was not from then.
All rumours and innuendo obviously, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Fremantle were unable to run an interview process that leaked like a sieve. What have we done to end up with these people.
Hagdorn’s started the sniping already. Must be resigned to the idea that his pal Sumich isn’t getting the Freo gig. Just on the radio, saying that not picking Sumich is a mistake, will set Freo back years, and that Bell and incoming coach (he assumes it’s JLo) is too inexperienced and won’t change culture, and will fail.
On the other hand, when the Weagles went for Simpson over Sumich, it was a brave move to try something innovative, to move from the Woosha years (because let’s face it, the culture at the time was fanta-bloody-tastic).
Be on the lookout, think critically about what he says. The sniping has started already, and his man probably doesn’t get up, so Hagdorn’s begun criticising already.
