Collingwood assistant coach Justin Longmuir remains interested in Fremantle's vacant coaching job but is unlikely to have a formal discussion with the Dockers until the Magpies' finals campaign ends.
The 38-year-old has been linked with the job since the Dockers parted ways with Ross Lyon at the end of the season. Dockers football manager Peter Bell spoke to Longmuir to assess his interest in the job at the start of the month.
However, with the Magpies in the finals Fremantle are yet to sit down with the former ruckman who played 139 games with the club.
"They have said all along they are not in a massive rush to appoint their coach and they are willing to take their time to go through candidates and do a thorough process, so that is just what they are doing," Longmuir told K-Rock ahead of Saturday's preliminary final.
Longmuir said reports claiming he had pulled out of the race were not correct and was definitive when asked whether he remained hopeful of speaking to the Dockers.
"Absolutely...I have said all along I am not going to give updates. That is for Fremantle to do on their process," Longmuir said.
The Dockers have spoken to Gold Coast assistant Dean Solomon and former West Coast premiership player Peter Sumich has made it clear he is interested in the position.
Longmuir has also been linked to senior assistant roles at Carlton however, he appeared to pour cold water on the prospect of joining the Blues.
"I'm contracted to the Collingwood football club," Longmuir said.
