TOPIC: Tim Kelly - lock it in

Agree with Yeti, Kelly will cost too much for a player with say 3 yrs before he turns 30 and then begins to wane
Better off with some WA kids who have just won the championship, build a team that can seriously challenge for the flag in 3 yrs time
Don't even think about any skinny Victorian kids or slow south australians

Strange thinking. Kelly has proven himself a champion and is now an All Australian. The Dockers need an immediate replacement for Hill and Langdon (not to mention Neale) and support for Fyfe. Draft picks can be anything or nothing and take time to develop ( Brayshaw and Cerra). We have a great trade in Hill and we can’t afford not to go for Kelly.

I’m with walba on this one, originally thought we should take whatever pick we get for Hill to the draft, but given Brad is about the same age as Tim I don’t think it hurts our list to replace them, I imagine this is some sort of 3 way trade with Stevens going to the cats and Brad landing at the saints, in this scenario it would be the saints having to add some picks to Geelong to sweeten the deal.
Fyfe is 27 so realistically we have 4 years left to win the elusive premiership. Also Kelly is 8 years younger than Mundy, just think about for a minute.

With Fyfe as All Australian Captain, Kelly should do as his Captain demands.

Yeah, why did they turn the lights off on the Swan PFG? That still alludes me.

Why would anyone think Kelly is a replacement for Hill or Langdon. Hill and Langdon are lacy wingers with strong two way running. Kelly is a big bodied mid with clean skills.
Hey, while we’re at it, maybe we can get Charlie Cameron traded over as a replacement for Sandilands.

No one is saying that Kelly is a spud, or that 27 is over the hill. Clearly not, Mundy is going great. But selling the farm for Kelly gives us an engine room of Kelly and Fyfe That will be very strong for the next three years, tops. Then one or both of them go onto limited minutes and rotate through the forward line, like Mundy, because they’re getting to the twilight of their careers (at which point, might I add, one serious injury ends their career).

Rather than risk everything on a premiership by 2022, I’d rather see the club go to the draft (and get kids that MIGHT not make it, sure) and get some kids to add to Cera, Brayshaw, Logue, Cox and get the next generation on the way so that we have SOME chance of being successful for a good long time, rather than crashing out again in 2023.

IMHO

It's not really risking everything. It's a little bit of a risk. I'd rather see them take risks for a premiership in 2022 than play it safe and continue to be a club living in a perpetual rebuild.

One thing people forget about the draft is that you can only draft what's there and it's not full of superstar footballers. It's full of mediocre nobodies and duds, with a few gems in the mix, and no one really has any idea which is which. Loading up for one year of the draft is a low percentage move.

Kelly is a big bodied mid with clean skills. Forget the big bodied bit and look at the rest.

Kelly is a mid with clean skills. Isn't that what we need?

If Matthew Richardson can be a success on a wing, why can't Kelly?

Yep couldn’t agree more. The draft is a lottery.
You don’t get many chances to recruit ready made proven elite players so if you can get them then you should have a crack regardless of perceived need.
This time of the year is similar to verge collection time - people put out their junk, others perceive value in it only to realise that its junk and put it out again after a year in the shed.

Everyone wants Tim Kelly the context being we don't want to pay too much. Shane, the only time our club has gotten anywhere is when it's used the draft.

Tom. Good one. Whether you think kelly is the answer or not, he just turned 25. Not sure where the 27 year old and 3-4 years left in his career comments come from.
