TOPIC: Draft

If we could find a way to get Kelly +4 of those then I'd be absolutely stoked. I can't see any way that happens though.

Henry is the number 1 for me, he is excitement and skill personified, he is exactly the type of player Freo needs and has always treasured. I think Sharp is the next one Freo need although there are probably a couple of others I rate higher. Jackson would be fantastic to have too but may take some time to find a spot in the side given we have a lot of KPF's on the list.

Of the rest, I'm not too sure. Robertson has proven himself a great inside bull but he doesn't look to be someone with a lot of development in him for the next level. He's already a strong body and will run all day (but not at great speed) so in terms of athleticism, he doesn't have a lot of improvement. He's also a very smart player and reader of the play so he won't have much to learn there. His disposal could use some work however which would be the difference between him being a great player at AFL level or an honest toiler. You certainly wouldn't pass him up if he were available in the teens but I wouldn't be trading up the order to get him as a priority.

Taylor has a lot of X-factor and is a risk but could be the best reward. He'll take a little time to physically develop but could be anything with the right coaching. I've jumped on and off him at various points this year and in the end I'm sitting on the fence. I think a brave side will take him relatively early in the teens and hope for the best.

Rivers and Ruscoe won't have the same draft projections outside WA so are a couple we might be able to grab later in the second round and get fantastic value out of, similar to Blakely sliding in his draft year. They'll be quality players at AFL level and won't need long in the WAFL to develop. They're more physically mature with good skills and a decent height so could fit in pretty quickly. I'd easily have either one playing next year ahead of Conca or Colyer.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The real Peter Bell will never be able to live up to the mythological Peter Bell that people have created in their minds.

Harley Bennell in 2015 has obviously turned out to be something of a bust

That article is quite a good analysis and shows our penchant for trading over drafting. I differ from it's conclusion to continue down the trade route for a quick return to finals but I'm not opposed to some of the proposals in there. I don't see how we come out a winner in the war against the OOFTIT's for Kelly without selling the farm so I'd rather drive up his price and let the OOFTIT's pay it.

Let's get Brodie Kemp instead who is an absolute star, he'll be better than Kelly.

The war for Kelly will be about who can get him the cheapest.

Kemp has done a knee I think, Bizkit. Can we draft someone healthy?

Nothing says long term career like knee surgery at 17.

There may by 1 player in the top 15 that will turn out to be better than Kelly. The way you talk Bizkit everyone would turn over there whole list every year. Out of 70 odd that get drafted every year only 9 percent will actually play 150 games.

I know Hypen, check out my post here about Kemp a few months ago.

I know it's a hard sell so I wont be pushing it hard but I'll still go on the record as rating Kemp as the best prospect this year and hoping we grab him.

The problem is Detox, when you pull out those sort of statistics they are based on an era where drafting was a lot more difficult and uncertain. You'll find as time has gone on, those percentages rise dramatically and without serious injuries during their career, first round prospects are very successful. Second round prospects tend to be quite good and then it gets murky after that. We've only had a few picks in that first round or so since our rebuild.

Although 150 games is at least 7 year career so there's a bit of a lag on the data.

Well put it this way. What odds would you want on Brodie Kemp becoming an All Australian? What would be an attractive investment? Tim Kelly is already an All Australian. From the current All Australian team there is none from 2011 draft, 1 from 2012 and 2 from 2013. Its actually not that easy to find your Tim Kelly's.

It is actually if you look right under your nose. He was playing pretty good footy at WAFL level for some time.
Watch Pickett cut loose at Richmond next year too.
