While I loved the result, it was somewhat depressing watching the Hawks play so well, even if they just miss the finals, they will be very competitive next year, more so if they manage to lure Coniglio from GWS, they won the 2015 grand final and will be back at the top again in 2020! Further proof that you don’t need to bottom out to produce an effective rebuild.

I sat with a relative-in-law last week watching the Slime, and listened in horror as she ripped into Josh Kennedy: “You’re an idiot, Kennedy”, “Don’t kick it to him, he’s useless” she screeched (she may not have called him Kennedy; the only name she knows confidently is “Nic Nat” - Kennedy is more often than not “our goalkeeper”, Ryan and Rioli “the little darkies”.

She may be an extreme example. Maybe not.
