When does an appointment for coach need to be made, ideally speaking? I'd have thought before trade period. So players have surety about a coach. Doesn't give them much time given (hopefully) they're talking to candidates in the finals.

Or it's because some board members have wanted to do it for a few weeks and the result on the weekend was enough to get the rest over the line to pull the trigger.

Also, I reckon 4 weeks should be enough, hypen. There's only a small pool of suitable candidates and the good ones will be studying the Fremantle list by now.

In our case I definitely think it should be soon in order to enable meaningful player exit interviews and most of the possible candidates should be available except for JLo depending on how far Collingwood go in the finals.

Could the announcement have coincided with the Carlton’s decision to give Teague the job, and Ratten looking a pretty good thing at St Kilda?
With these positions being sured up, it must give more certainty to who is available.
I can only hope that we have people we are interested in, that we can now target.
It would be very unfortunate to say, be interested in Longmuir and Carlton offer him their position. If you were coach in Melbourne, and offered both jobs, which would you take. Carlton with no need to relocate your family, and early draft picks crawling all over the or Freo?

The thing to remember also is that there could be 5 other coaching jobs up for grabs in coming weeks. St Kilda already searching but Ratten seems to have front running there although the boys on for Fox tonight were putting up Ross as a late entry for that spot.
Next is the 2 Adelaide teams, with neither Hinkley or Pyke looking safe if, as looks likely, they both miss finals next week and then Essendon and GWS who could both bow out in first week of finals. Both Woosha and Leon Cameron not looking safe either.
So, basically, there could be up to 6 coaching positions up for grabs at seasons end and some of our targets may be in demand at other clubs. It makes for an interesting time and we may need to lock our preferred target in sooner than later.

I'd say it was as much for Ross as it was for FFC. Means he's in the mix for other club positions that are waiting for the end of the season to fill. The fact of the matter is, if the result last weekend really mattered Ballantyne wouldn't have been given a farewell game. It was a disapointing result but one can hardly blame Ross for the many skill errors they commited on the weekend that, if had been removed, would have put us a bit better.
4 weeks is fair to fill the role, though they probably won't announce it until after the grand final.

Baloney. We won every stat possible but lost the game miserably. The players were never in a position not to fail. That sealed the deal, cancer identified and cut out.
