Agree down on down, however I don’t think that would be so much of an issue if the players knew where the guy on the outside is going to be, good teams look like they are flunking handballs or knock ons to us, but in reality they all know what is supposed to happen and where someone should be even if they aren’t there yet, watch the Richmond eagles game later today and you’ll see plenty of “no look” handballs that just happen to land in their teammates hands, we send so players to the stoppage that they literally run into each other and as you mentioned handball to someone 2m away about to be tackled. If we had a system that dictates “always run corridor side of the stoppage” as soon as someone took possession they’d know where someone was going to be. We don’t have that drilled into our players at training so they just handball off to the first teammate they see.
Edit: it actually looks like they are training to bring the ball back into the congestion to force another stoppage if nothing else is available. Look at the Mundy handball back into the centre once the opponent grabbed his jumper, missing the player who would have been tackled instantly it went to a bomber who drilled it forward for an easy goal.
