We came second....isn't that how we spin it so it's not the coach who is responsible for the decisions he makes?
Yeah naah, it was a very winnable game but we basically handed it to St Kilda, a not uncommon feature of Freo footy it seems. My frustration still is centred on the fact that we keep doing the same thing wrong for season after season and seemingly make no effort to change to address our deficiencies.
Oh sure, we can tip players out willy nilly and hide behind "it's a rebuild" but that excuse is hard to credit when we turfed out players who are now in the best 22 at other clubs and we spend all our time into trying to turn the new blokes into clones of the old blokes. In any other context, we'd be calling it fraud and getting the cops to step in.
The bottom line is we went about the rebuild in exactly the wrong way. You cannot address the on-field problems until you correct the off-field problems because thats where the decisions are being made. The rebuild was a con job to protect the off-field people by hiding behind the on-field people and accepting that is pretty much arrant stupidity
