Forget all that. We should just play five minutes each way - it’s a bit like basketball - you know it’s going to be close so might as well only watch the last few minutes. It will save wear and tear and injuries.
Or if we want to save travel costs just agree to flip a coin - we might get lucky occasionally.
I hate the way we play footy.

The decision to try and make that kick early on was the bigger issue - as was Duman’s blind over the head handpass from the boundary line on the back 50.

Duman was not a blind handball he had carter there and yes it was not a great handball I get that , but a half competent afl player mops that up and of they go.
Unfortunately carter fumbled then tried to to move it on but straight to a st kilda player and bang a goal out of nowhere.

So I don’t blame duman , good afl sides keep the ball moving , but you forget we are are the 2nd worst skilled side in the competition.

We weren’t that great in 2013 , but were not the worst.

Anyhow a broken record and until he goes nothing will change .

Dear recruiters
Remember that the game is called FOOTball, ie it helps if you can hit a target with a kick.
Go to the AFL draft combine. Ask players to kick the ball into a rubbish bin that is 40m away. Prioritise anyone who gets it in.

I thought it was a pretty good game of footy. There were skill errors, sure, but I have seen us play far worse this season. The umpiring was all over the shop.

Eventually Saints vs Freo 4 years 8 months ago #34

Eventually
Some terrible skills from both sides but ours seemed the worse. Banfield plays in the forward line but refused to have a shot - seems to lack complete confidence so bring back Ballas next week. Schultz is just too slow and just doesnt win enough contests and Carter and Conca had shockers. Those 4 just weren't up to it this week and that was the difference. Bring on 2020 last 2 games lets have a look at Dixon, North and next week one for Ballas.

I agree, bring Balla's back, but for Matera, not Banfield.

Do you seriously propose our highest goal kicker that went at 100% disposal efficiency yesterday.
In a team that struggles to kick a score and is woeful by foot, he is one player that does have the ability to execute a precise kick.
We had 11 players under 22 yesterday you are going to get drops in individuals performances. Carter had a poor game yesterday and could go back to WAFL for perhaps Sturt.
I wouldn’t give Ballantyne a send off. I haven’t seen how McCarthy went yesterday but if he had a strong game I would possibly find a spot for him again.
I loved Logues efforts yesterday and he will be a player. Darcy was also good again along with Sandilands. Sandilands form warrants another one year deal but I don’t know how to continue Darcy’s development and have Sandi in the squad.
Cerra I thought had another good day, his skill execution for a highly skilled player sometimes deserts him in the pressure at this level.
Switkowski was superb all day with elite pressure and tackling, his kicking lacks depth and his teammates should know this.
To much left to our premiums in Fyfe, Hill, Mundy and Walters
Unfortunately

Just checked Peel stats, going on them maybe North ahead of McCarthy.

For accuracy's sake, we didn't have 11 players under 22 against the Saints. Tucker is 22 while Switkowski is also 22 (23 in 2 months).

The following players will all be 22 soon:
Schultz (2 months to 22)
Banfield (5 months to 22)
Logue (7 months to 22)
Duman (7 months to 22)

So the youth angle is somewhat misleading. Around 21 is when most players should be establishing themselves and reaching their potential, especially if they are to be any good. Obviously there are exceptions and it's no set formula but to consider these players inexperienced and really young and raw is not quite the truth.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

It must come down to chemistry then.
We've had some good formulas, a few explosions as well, but generally inert reactions.

Biggest reason we lost yesterday was how wasteful we were in front of the goals in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Fyfe missed two pretty simple snaps. Switter tries hard but his set shot is terrible. There were others. Slot 2 of those and we would have been 25 up with 2 minutes to go not 8.

Is there any chance we could draft more players with good skills? We seem to continually go for good tackler/pressure players to play forward, but when the time comes they can't hit the goal. They need to be both.

Sorry should’ve been 22 and under.
I think the team on the weekend qualifies as young and developing. I just did a quick check against the Eagles team that played on the weekend. Please correct if I make a couple of small errors I am on my lunch break on my phone. The Eagles has four players 22 or under take the field, Waterman 21, Petrucelle and Allen taken in 2017 draft and Liam Ryan 21.
I imagine that if I run the numbers on Richmond these numbers would be similar. I also think it may be a little easier to come into these teams as a young bloke and slowly build into your career with less chance of being exposed.
Before anyone jumps up and down and says I have cherry picked. I grabbed one of the genuine contenders as an example of a team profile that you need to genuinely challenge.

Definitely our most inexperienced side overall for awhile yesterday, but while the slime and Richmond have older playing groups, Brisbane's is very young.
