The good
The players seemed to give a sh** about the game. I’m loath to use the word “effort” because I’m not on board with Ross’”E” word, but too many times in the past few years I’ve seen our boys run out looking bored and disaffected. One of the things I really wanted to see this year was our boys go out and have a crack, and I feel like I saw that in spades last night.
Logue - again giving glimpses of what a beast he can be.
Brayshaw - emerging as a real player this year, and this game was another standout.
Sandi - love him. Always better when he’s angry, and he looked angry.
Lobb - every time he goes forward his actions clearly make the statement of “I told you I wanted to be a forward, I told you. Play me here, you bastards!”
The not so good:
Scrappy low scoring footy on a good night against weak opposition. Should not have been so close and very lucky to get a win. I didn’t THINK we would win, but I EXPECT better.
Wilson - has looked off all year. Are they trying to make him a lockdown small defender because that would be criminal. Let Duman/Nyhuis/Hamling cover the smalls. Don’t waste one of the AFL’s most damaging kicks.
McCarthy - lead up well, but is a confidence player, and after dropping that chest mark early slipped out of the game.
Cera - I can see the idea, give him the Mundy path of learning the game off halfback before swinging him into the middle but it doesn’t seem to be working for him. Might be better letting him dominate some clearance work in the WAFL than having him jog out games at half back in the bigs.
