If I'm putting my conspiracy theory hat on for a second, I think Judd's recent comments that interim coach Teague is out of the running for the Carlton job along with his comment that Carltank is looking for an experienced coach, plus the meeting with SOS after Bolton was sacked (yes, I know they own a business together), and the way that Freo players played, suggests to me that they put 2 + 2 together and surmised that Lyon is off to Carltank next year. The icing on the cake for me was watching David Hale trudge back to the coach's race during the Derby - he was literally the last one to leave the ground and had a look on him like he just realised he was out of a job. Anyway, none of this or all of this could be true, but I'm looking for reasons why the past players like Barlow, Spurr, Pavlich and McPharlin, and Son Son for that matter, all think that Lyon is the best coach Freo's had. And, don't tell me Belly can't think for himself or he's drunken the RoLy kool-aid. I think they've all realised that the only way Lyon is leaving is if he breaks his contract voluntarily, and the only way he does this is if he's got another job lined up. The whole rebuild/recruitment was geared towards seriously challenging for a premiership in 2020 (although early finals return would be nice for 2019). If Lyon's checked out for any reason, I could see how this would impact negatively on the playing group.
As I said, I have no insight whatsoever into the day-to-day happenings in clubland, though I note that the last shellacking we had from the Weagles was in 2012 (scored a total of 36 points) and the following year we made the GF.
