When football hooligans get arraigned before the local magistrate, the consequences of their choices always seem to be someone else's fault.
This guy was with the Carlton cheer squad- who would have some sort of code of behaviour. Probably thought it was nothing too consequential but but he drew attention to himself.
Worse, at the Richmond game in Perth, a guy at the city end, launching loudly into our forwards as they peppered the goals against Richmond with a number of close misses.
The AFL decide to make an example: not a hanging offence, just a 3 game ban, where he can easily watch the game on TV or at the pub. No-one died, no-one got hurt. Plenty of time for this fan to reflect,, and maybe modify his take on it.
There is yelling, like in Q4 of the Bris game, where the crowd were up and about. Then there is gratuitous abuse.
Where the line is, is not always clear but at least the AFL are sending a strong signal
As for this umpire, who will likely be adjudicating our games before the season is out: he might read Dockerland.
I think he should be lauded!.
