The first thing I'd do at Carlton, is hire Peter Sumich - who has been a successful assistant coach at multiple clubs, won premierships, coached a WAFL team, worked in a development role and helped run a company - as a football manager. Give him a brief of hiring a new coach and reviewing every area of the football club. Make him the voice of the football team and make sure it's clear that he's at the top of the chain of command.

But I reckon they'll revert to using their chequebook.

Get Mitchell AND Ratten.

Mitchell has some cred but he's too new to the coaching lark. Ratten would make a bloody good mentor for his first couple of years or Chocko.

Look at getting Caracella and Longmuir as senior assistants / forwards coach.

Keep Roger in his current job while giving him the opportunity to learn from the more experienced blokes.

I'm not sure I'd be trying too hard to hang on to the other ass coaches

I know, in my Freo glass half full world he’s learned and acquired football and life skills from experience
I post Brad Scott to Carlton for the rest of the year, he hadn’t booked a holiday and could turn up on Monday for big bucks, deliver a rocket. Take the year off for 2020 when he’s decided if if he wants to go to Harvard or the Whitsundays

Why not change it up a little and have a shared coaching arrangement, we do it with captains? A sort of trio of the best football minds able to focus on specific workstreams according to their strengths and weaknesses moving forward:

Damian Drum - Strategy and match day tactics.

Mark Neeld - High performance and defence.

Michael Voss - Midfield, offence and motivation seminar coordinator.

They'd hand us a flag.
