Apparently right to go this weekend after a miraculous recovery, should we throw him straight in and send Lobb forward?

Raglan Matt
Yes, Harley needs someone up forward to bring the footy to ground.

Lobb must go forward, Hogan is not a tall marking option.

Taberner's loss is being detected off coastal towns in South America.

Up against Grundy-undie this weekend seems like a perfect situation to take in a two ruck side. I like Hodor a lot, this is the game for him.

Especially is Mason Cox is named as well, as handy as Lobb has been, he will need more ruck support than what cox can offer

So, Darcy out of form, not taking marks, not getting around the ground, at WAFL level. Injured, misses game. Straight back into the firsts. Seriously? Bad move I say.

Yes, Hodor straight back in. Lobb forward.

Out of curiosity, how comprehensively do you reckon an out of form and half fit Darcy would get towelled up by Brodie Grundy?

About as much as Lobb would but the offset is Lobb going forward where his contested marking and relatively straight kicking might result in a higher score.

But thats just me. I've never considered things like 3 goals in 3 quarters to be any kind of successful formula. Probably explains why I'm not being paid 1.2 million a year.

You know you can phrase things in a non-snide, non-sneering manner. That kind of post isn't by any means obligatory

Playing two ruckman with ankle injuries. Rory might not be jumping too much this Saturday, off a six day break. What happened to all those budding ruckmen in the squad: Moller, Stradnica would have been handy right now

I didn't say I thought it was a good idea, I was just explaining the logic behind it.

As for Strdnadica, well 'don't mention the war'.

Personally, I watched Grundy play last week and he was absolutely immense, especially in the last quarter. Probably the best best around the ground ruckman in the game today. He was about as good as the way the Worst used to talk up flappy at the slime except Grundy was that good and didn't flop to the ground when hit with a gentle breeze.

In short, he's going to towel up anybody we have and he'll do it all over the ground.

A smart bloke, in my view, would be conceding the ruck and concentrate on sharking his taps or at least having players on the outside to prevent Colonwood from spreading into an easy clearance.

Conceding the ruck taps is sensible but you still want someone to get around the ground and compete, minimise Grundy's impact in marking and contested ball. Is Darcy ready for that? Wish he was but fear he isn't. Lobb did some strong work in the latter stages, timely stuff. I would like to know what the issue is with Darcy. Injuries? Welfare? Homesick? If the kid is not ready, throwing him in on the best may be problematic. Worth the risk? Or do we tag team Grundy, make life difficult for him?

Darcy isn't ready for that role in my view. Plus he is a valuable asset that we will need in winnable games later in the season. Risking further injury in a game where he isn't going to be the difference between winning and losing is short sighted I think.

The issue with Darcy (from memory) is that he rolled his ankle playing with Peel.He is still going to have some ligament damage, regardless of how pain free he may or may not feel. So, it would be a bigger than normal risk to play him.

As for minimising Grundy's impact? In the ruck, not really an option. Using run with players on Colonwood's inside mids might reduce their clearance rate. Around the ground? Grundy is mobile, a good overhead mark and pretty good below his knees.

The only way to reduce his impact is keep the ball away from him. We currently don't have anybody who can go with him. We're not the only team in that position.

Other than that, pushing him under a bus before the game might slow him down a bit but I wouldn't bet my house on the bus either.

Agree Yeti, but from memory (horrible recurring nightmare type memories) he did little in most recent GF. I reckon the keeping the ball away from him and crowding him worked ok. Its not as if a gun ruckman beat him on the day. Damn you Grundy.
There is a way.
