Drubbing, I take a reasonably dim view of the current Board and admin. Obviously as a fan I don’t know the inner-workings of the club, but from the outside I don’t agree with a lot of decisions the club has made. I said at the time extending Lyon to such a long-term contract was a mistake, and I don’t feel good about the way the club generally appears to conduct its business.
If I feel that way, and I’m generally one the less-easily aggrieved posters on this place (especially about Lyon), then I think I’m assuming people who care enough to think about the club have even stronger views.
My sense is that eventually things will come to a head, deflection and ‘staying on message’ won’t cut it, and Bell and the Board will go into self-preservation mode. I don’t think they will have the fortitude to make a call on Lyon themselves, especially as most of them are complicit in giving him such a long contract in the first place (which will cost the club millions). So they’ll get a ‘respected outside voice’ to come in and do the dirty work for them.
I think the members of the Board who made the decision to extend Lyon did so with good intentions and I although I didn’t agree with the decision I understood the logic; however if and when Lyon goes, I think the people who signed off on the extension should probably go with him.
Personally, I don’t think there are enough lawyers on the Board - there are currently zero, can you believe it!
