TheYeti, till we don't have accountability at the top... every year is going to be the same..we have coaches and managers that are not performing and making excuses and still there ...

That was a poor display. Freo let an under strength Richmond hustle them completely out of the game. They wanted the ball more, and they used it better, with more accuracy. They ran harder, and for longer. They made the Dockers look like an average, mid-table team, at best. So disappointing. There needs to be some changes made, because, based on what I watched today, things are going backwards.

Yeah, naaaah, pp.

We had a review, remember? Everything was A OK. I imagine the next review will make the same finding. I'm guessing that results on the field are irrelevant as long as the reviews check out.

Better skills, better coached and faster. They were all over us. Fyfe incredible, really tried to win the game for us by himself. And Luke Ryan is one of the most natural, gifted footballers I’ve ever seen. We are very lucky to have him.

It was a poor game for many reasons in what has been a more favourable year so far. They were beaten as ross Lyon tends to struggle against hawthorn trained coaches.’
At the end of the day ross Lyon sides have always been effort with polish second. What you see from the dockers is where it will be at with some improvement.

Ross will never coach a grand final winning side - too much needs to go his way , ie umpiring , set shots etc etc
Anyhow 38 more games to go.

From Roly Prezza:

" Questioned why Blakely was overlooked, Lyon denied he didn't currently see the big-bodied utility in the best side

"No, I think that's an emotive statement. Connor's a very good player, he's had nine months off, he's had a big torn tendon hamstring, it takes time," Lyon said.

"He's played two WAFL games, and (is) building nicely. Two is not much if you think you come into the season with three or four under your belt, (including) internal practice games."

Yeah, right!....and sitting out this weekend would have done him a great deal of good. Does this mean he's not going to be picked next week because he needs more WAFL games??

Clowns are either scary, or funny. Ross Lyon is just annoying.

+Oh, what a way to take the pressure off the coach, Morgan. We lost because Walters plays for free kicks. Give it a rest for chrissakes.

Plenty here think Brereton is an idiot, but he played in , and won off his own boot, a few GF's. His comment about Freo's forward structure goes totally against what the Dockerland experts preach, but I , for one agree with his observation in the third quarter that forwards have to lead at the ball carrier not run away from him. It costs us a lot more games than Tabs goalkicking or Walters staging for frees.

Look, every team so far this year has had one or two shocker games. It’s such a tight competition, it only takes a few things not to go your way plus extra intent and any opposition can make you pay. We weren’t quite there today against a quality team, and got done. That much I can cop.

What is becoming an increasing issue though, is our already mentioned poor skill level. We are winning enough of the ball and contests, but continue to butcher it across the board. Even games like the St Kilda and Bulldogs game, we made a lot harder than they needed to be for the same reason. Better execution would have seen us blow those games away.

We need the guys to lower their eyes far more. Well skilled teams will pull you apart, even if they lose the contested ball count. I thought it was poor selection not selecting Blakey and dropping Cammac. Two of our quality ball users. Cams had a lean past two weeks, but name me a forward that did anything from either team in the flood-fest in Adelaide. I don’t think Cox earned his inclusion with pretty patchy two’s form. In any case, our effort is fine, but our skills need a serious overhaul.

I also think Fyfe will be fine based on the Ablett precedent. They would look too obviously farcical to throw the book at him. Although, true to form, the media certainly isn’t putting a rainbows and unicorns spin on it like with Ablett...

The stats sheet shows a pretty even contest but that can be misleading because if you butcher it all over the ground and then in the forward fifty all that good work to win the contest means bugger all.

Lyon admitted as much when he spoke about conversion and ball use. It’s his job as a million dollar a year coach to fix it.

The stat which tells us something is marks which was incredibly lopsided at 60-117 and uncontested possessions 184-253. Richmond we’re spreading much better than us and running in waves when they had the ball and this setup attacking options. We simply don’t do this well enough........in fact we just don’t do it much at all. This is the fundamental problem with Ross Lyon footy.

From the vert start we seemed intent on going very short, barely the distance type of short. Poorly executed, that looked awful and, except for the initial comeback, really got no better.

I'm definitely on board with the idea of forwards leading up to the ball - easier to pass to, and forwards really do get protection these days with the chopping the arms rule.

KK, for all Lyon preaches effort, he does not coach effort to put pressure on the ball receiver BEFORE he receives it. That is why sides have so many uncontested marks and possessions against us. It allows them to pick us to pieces.

We had the same number of scoring shots, and I think had more shots on goal, but a lack of skills training kills us again.

Most noteably KK, those stat sheet differentials that you outline, display 'skills'., or rather, our absence thereof.

We struggle to get 'uncontested possessions' because of our deplorable skills under pressure. Theres only 2 blokes that have 'skill under pressure, - Mundy & Walters. The rest are hopeless...and that area of our game should have been addressed wa-aay before now.

Also a game plan that revolves around creating a fustercluck after kicking down the line, doesnt help the ol' uncontested possession tally.

There has been a suggestion that our possession heat map suggests we moved it through the centre more today.

If you 'break it down' and look at each individual quarter,
maybe one can argue that that was true in the 3rd Q.
But, that is when we got belted, I thought.

And we got belted in that quarter because of poor skills. And it got worse from there as we tired. Look at Q4 heatmap, and its a sorry sight!!

And the coach has a lot to answer for in all this.
