I know people are bagging the structure, but I thought it was good today. I thought we had a good balance of inside work - and won the clearances. We had outside run. We had tall targets forward. Our defence was ok. We had more inside 50s.
I just thought we didn’t take our chances. Often we had numbers, then muffed a disposal, and Richmond found themselves running the other way in space.
Our kicking and decision making going into the forward 50 remains a shambles. Too often good players made shocking decisions.
I think a play in the third summed it up. We won the ball, got it forward to Hill and Matera running into the 50 with plenty of options. Matera gave it to Hill on his wrong foot, so Hill gave it back to Matera on his wrong foot, and after burning the forwards the two knuckleheads conspired to kick a point.
That sort of thing happens way too much, especially today.
Maybe it’s fatigue, or bad coaching somehow indirectly, but I just see veteran players being numpties.
