SaltyDog, I’ve got reasonably thick skin.
I think the same person, or in this case poster, can be viewed very differently depending on who is doing the perceiving. For example, if I were to guess based on their posts I would guess:
i. Shane sees me as a verbose and annoying smartarse who doesn’t think anyone in the Freo footy department is accountable for anything and chalks up way too much to circumstance, and who probably makes his life more annoying but not quite enough to bother booting off the site.
ii. Hypen sees me as an occasionally annoying smartarse who despite being mostly well-intentioned thinks he knows more about footy than he actually does.
iii. Polly sees me as someone who is blind to Lyon’s corrosive effects on the footy club, and who has poor taste in WAFL teams, but is basically a good sort who loves Freo.
iv. Raglan Matt sees me as an apologist for umpires and modern-footy who unnecessarily overcomplicates things.
v. Corporal Agarn sees me as an alcoholic with good taste in bars.
vi. Rogerrocks sees me as someone who is making sensible points in a good-natured way.
I’m not sure who is right, but my guess is CA is closest. Or maybe I’m way off about all of that.
I think yeti he sees me in the worst possible light, and that in his view I’m the worst type of supporter. When he says I’m a ‘known quantity’, I think he sees me as a closet Lyon-worshipper who only posts on Dockerland to annoy other people and to disingenuously muddy the waters on Lyon. That’s not my intention, but I don’t think I’ll ever persuade him otherwise.
But part of the appeal of Dockerland is you get to put your views, and read others. Yeti will likely never get the chance to take his frustration with Lyon (and what he is doing with the club) directly to Lyon, so I can see how I might make a reasonable proxy given how often I defend Lyon.
But I don’t think yeti has me pegged correctly, and I don’t think anyone is a ‘known quantity’, especially a poster on a footy site. My guess is yeti and I have a few things in common, and if we were to meet in real life and in different circumstances we’d probably get on. He’s smart, stubborn, and anyone who sticks fat with Freo and cares about the club as much as he does is ok with me.
So I don’t take it personally.
