Shane. I’m not in the least bit interested in defending Morgan. He’s far more capable of that than I’ll ever be

My Talking Heads alert just chimed...

The sound of gunfire, off in the distance,
I'm getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, lived in a ghetto,
I've lived all over this town
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
This ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey,
I ain't got time for that now

All that it takes,
I'll bet it's right

David Byrne has a way of getting right to the point.

They can't be the Shaun Marshes of everything.

Look, what happened to you Shane? Did you go to a fancy dress party as David Byrne in the big suit and get pissed on by a stray dog wearing a Pixies t shirt? The Heads might not be the be all and end all of everything music but let's just say that they're the be all and end all of everything. They're the Three Eyed Crow of it all.

Their main competition was the Eagles.

I found the game to be mesmerising actually. Stressful to watch, but nonetheless I couldn't take my eyes off it, every play was fiercely contested by both sides and it never let up. If you are wondering why Ross Lyon was smiling, you could pull out tapes of St Kilda games from 2009 and 2010 and you will see it's the type of footy that got him into three grand finals. Interestingly, he said in his post-match presser that there was no plan to come into the game and play that way. Our defence was magnificent, but so was Adelaide's. A couple of dumb fifty metre penalties given away by our players. Plus an Eddie Betts goal from an Adelaide Oval pocket - proved to be the difference on the scoreboard. They will talk about Eddie Betts' goals from pockets for the next fifty years, just as they reference Daicos'. I think we can beat Richmond next week, I just hope that this game hasn't left our players depleted and sore from such a hard contest.

SaltyDog, I’ve got reasonably thick skin.

I think the same person, or in this case poster, can be viewed very differently depending on who is doing the perceiving. For example, if I were to guess based on their posts I would guess:

i. Shane sees me as a verbose and annoying smartarse who doesn’t think anyone in the Freo footy department is accountable for anything and chalks up way too much to circumstance, and who probably makes his life more annoying but not quite enough to bother booting off the site.

ii. Hypen sees me as an occasionally annoying smartarse who despite being mostly well-intentioned thinks he knows more about footy than he actually does.

iii. Polly sees me as someone who is blind to Lyon’s corrosive effects on the footy club, and who has poor taste in WAFL teams, but is basically a good sort who loves Freo.

iv. Raglan Matt sees me as an apologist for umpires and modern-footy who unnecessarily overcomplicates things.

v. Corporal Agarn sees me as an alcoholic with good taste in bars.

vi. Rogerrocks sees me as someone who is making sensible points in a good-natured way.

I’m not sure who is right, but my guess is CA is closest. Or maybe I’m way off about all of that.

I think yeti he sees me in the worst possible light, and that in his view I’m the worst type of supporter. When he says I’m a ‘known quantity’, I think he sees me as a closet Lyon-worshipper who only posts on Dockerland to annoy other people and to disingenuously muddy the waters on Lyon. That’s not my intention, but I don’t think I’ll ever persuade him otherwise.

But part of the appeal of Dockerland is you get to put your views, and read others. Yeti will likely never get the chance to take his frustration with Lyon (and what he is doing with the club) directly to Lyon, so I can see how I might make a reasonable proxy given how often I defend Lyon.

But I don’t think yeti has me pegged correctly, and I don’t think anyone is a ‘known quantity’, especially a poster on a footy site. My guess is yeti and I have a few things in common, and if we were to meet in real life and in different circumstances we’d probably get on. He’s smart, stubborn, and anyone who sticks fat with Freo and cares about the club as much as he does is ok with me.

So I don’t take it personally.

Words can make you pay and pay
Four-letter words I cannot say
Panty, toilet, dirty devil
Words are trouble, words are subtle
Words of anger, words of hate
Words over here, words out there
In the air and everywhere
Words of wisdom, words of strife
Words that write the book I like

iii. Correct. Someone who actually wears a knitted 1995 away jumper is a bit off-centre, but I reckon it's probably a good luck gesture that has saved us a number of times at Subi.

SaltyDog,

I can only suggest you read back through his posting history. My digs are not veiled, thin or otherwise.

They are a response, that has built over time, to his cheap jibes at people who criticize the club or the coach. When he stops doing that, I'll stop responding
