I like your attitude Suker. Yes, we are going to lose plenty of games, and some of the losses will be ugly, but I'm in it for the ride. A premiership would be great, but there is a lot of luck in getting one of those. So for now, just enjoying us winning, and the Eagles not. There is a lot of upside in the team, a lot to look forward to.

Timmeh not sure that's true. We've won some close games due to champions lifting, and the opposition not being quite up to it. We have a good team on the park, but sometimes get beaten in the clearances.
Next week will be the toughest yet, a better measure. I hope we can avoid injuries later in the season at the pointy end.

And after there performance this weekend I haven’t changed my opinion. We will beat both the crows and tigers over the next fortnight. Bombers at marvel has me worried though!

Looking at the fixtures we are about where we should be.

Roos are rubbish so we beat them
Lost to Gold Coast, this was the one that got away
Beat the Saints, we were lucky but got there
Lost to the flogs, was expected based on form, interesting since then they have lost 2 and we have won 2.
beat GWS, this was a pleasant surprise
QA win over the dogs at home is expected.

Next 3 weeks will see where we sit Crows are getting their mojo back, Tigers are a good team and Bombers at Docklands is never easy.
What is impressing me is the backline is a solid unit and doing a great job, they are not just stopping teams from scoring but starting to rebound well, that shows confidence the links through Hill Walters and Langdon are giving us good run and carry on the wings. Our inside with Fyfe and Mundy are elite but be good to get one more good insider to support them, Blakely hopefully can give us some more grunt there. Lobb is doing OK in the ruck but cant see him there all year Darcy or Sandi need to come in at some time, I like Lobb as he can go forward and take a mark Darcy and Sandi struggle with this..

The forwards need to find consistency Walters is class but is playing up field a lot, Matera has played 3 good games unfortunately Tabs, Hogan and mccarthy have played some ordinary games among some good ones, if they can get some consistency we will be right up there.

The game plan is definitely different we are running and carrying more and are going more direct to the forwards, the forwards just need to gel a bit more consistent and we will be good.

In terms of Roly I think he has the next few weeks to show us how far we have come.

I still think we need a more contemporary coach so will be disappointing if he gets extended beyond 2020, but who knows we have the potential to do great things and if we do who knows

I think Roly is changing as time goes on and possibly into the coach we should have had.

The team is playing good footy, but more importantly to me they are finally enjoyable to watch. I like where they are headed.
The midfield as a unit is getting beaten for large portions of games. Both gws and the dogs were well on top of Freo for a fair chunk of the game. The backline is playing out of its skin but they are under siege and it will take it’s toll as the season wears on. I would bring in Blakely this week for Conca or Brayshaw but I don’t think it will completely solve the issue. S. Hill would be handy.

The biggest problem our midfield has is that they are forced by strategic intent to contest the footy in 2 very narrow corridors. 15 to 20 meters in from each boundary line. Opponents know all they have to do is get the ball over the line to halve the contest, or get it into the middle corridor to go into attack. Until our coaches play the middle corridor, our midfield is going to cop overuse injuries.

I sit in the nosebleeds. On the wing the row farthest and highest from the play, can touch the Optus sign. Whilst I sometimes think I should colour 18 ants purple and save 800 bucks a year it does lend a certain tactical perspective to things.

Here's some observations from the stratosphere, all teams play the same. They push up the ground and transition the ball along the wings 80 per cent of the time. If anything we are getting players forward of the play more often than our opponents.

Teams can't go up middle it's heavily protected, they don't get many opportunities to do it.

What I will say is we do miss opportunities to cut back inside on transition, programmed to play the flanks and it's one dimensional. But to suggest we are doing something ultra defensive relative to our opponents, it's not true.

I think the whole 6,6,6 thing has coaches so spooked that they can get blown out of the water they over compensate by locking things down in the field of play.

Hypen, opponents know they do not have to worry about us cutting infield, we do it so rarely. Everytime we do do it however we create a goalscoring opportunity. The middle does not get heavily protected, opposition teams seem to have no trouble running the footy through the guts against us, and the most consistently successful sides play the middle corridor because they are prepared to take risks to win, something our coach frowns heavily upon.

Name a team this year that cut us up through the centre, I'm not seeing that? Gold Coast game was a poor lethargic effort granted.

To me some of our kids understandably are not taking the best option. It's the last thing that comes in their development. I'm not sure it's coaching. It might be though.

Look at the Eagles game we didn't lose that because of a defensive mindset, anxiety was the cause.

We have a solid squad - good backline, solid midfield, potentially very good fwd line.
6-6-6 and the no runners has evened things out a bit while everyone adjusts.
We play half our games at Optus and the opposition travels from interstate.
We have a ripping draw.

We should absolutely be in the 8, and anything less would be a waste of a season and a disaster. Will we be able to mix it with the top 4 sides at the pointy end? I don't think so, and I think we are a bit away from that. But there is no reason to think that we won't play finals.

Does this mean Ross is the guy to take us to a premiership? That is another question altogether. But this should be a good season to springboard the side into some ongoing finals exposure if handled well.
