As Caroline Wilson said, we have "a history for taking players with problems".
It seems to me that we have finally been getting the drafting side of things right, but when it comes to trading we panic - we see a desperate need and desperately fill it. Our gambles are not paying off, and they cost us in more ways than money. I wouldn't mind if we were gambling on players with injuries, but we are gambling on players with questionable character. I believe that Hogan may well suffer anxiety, but so do I and I don't turn up to work drunk. He is not in control of himself and that means he's not only going to disrupt our season and his own career, but also the culture and unity of the club (and that, long-term, is worse).
The fact is, there are lots of inspiring stories of athletes battling adversity to achieve success, but when the adversity you're battling is your own poor decision-making, there's rarely a happy ending. I hope Hogan comes good but the way the club's mishandled the situation so far doesn't leave me brimming with confidence.
Perhaps if the club stopped throwing spin at their supporters and starting communicating honestly with us I'd feel more optimistic about our future.
