Come off it Cometti, young fellas of 16/17 all over Australia are leaving home for work. Blame some one or something if you like, but get things in perspective first. Maybe you could have a look at how a 16 year old starting out in the shearing sheds has grown up, compared to a 17 year old drafted by an AFL team. You might be in for a surprise, and you might realise the young fellas in the AFL that handle the job, had a similarly grounded upbringing to the shearer. Most of these young footy players having problems are taken in the top 15-20 of the draft, and have never had to face real adversity until they hit the big league.

Sheering being an industry completely free of mental health issues, drug abuse and alcoholism. Maybe take a few minutes to look into that

Beside that, one person being able to cope with something doesn't mean everyone can. Why would someone playing football need to be put under the same pressure as a shearer? It's entertainment.

There's a lot of blame thrown on 'the spotlight' and social media but maybe clubs need to look at why they're doing, things like making blokes train on a Sunday morning, instead of giving them the time off to spend with family or relaxing. Why are they going off to the Gold Coast for training camps over summer.

Over training is clearly an issue being looked at in terms of the physical toll is taking on players, so it's quite likely that there are factors taking a mental toll on players as well. Are they giving them home work and game plans that are productive or are they just the merely a byproduct of coaches having to justify their big salaries and seemingly unlimited resources. The players don't seem to have gotten any better of the past 30 years so you have to wonder how long ago they past the point of diminishing returns. Seems like at least 20 years.

I know you'll get the old guard going - well if they're not up to the job then there are plenty of others who will do it, but why would you want to start recruiting players with less skills but greater capability to do homework and sit through unproductive lectures.
