Kardinia Park 2018. Yes.
But that was Tendai's fault.

“The positive was that of posession gained off kick-ins, which is the biggest score sources, typically, we were quite strong.”

We kicked eight goals. That’s eight, Ross. Eight!

The opposition kicked sixteen.

You need something else, Ross.

Is RL really trying to say the oppositions missed shots on goal are our best avenue towards kicking a goal? That would explain a lot about our set up and his coaching tactics.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

For some teams, scoring a point used to be the prelude to a goal, as their opposition couldn't break through their forward press. So they go back in and have another shot.

For others, scoring a point was a prelude to having a goal scored against them at the other end, because their opponents got the ball and moved it really quickly to the other end.

With the new rules, its more of the latter. The forward press won't work now. Having a point scored against you is a minor penalty for getting a free kick, with the bonus that you can run extra before kicking it.

So we really need to try and kick goals and not points. And if we do kick a point, everyone has to work their butts off to stop the rebound goal. It will be interesting to see who exploits the rule change the best.

Nailed it RR, and to Shane's Oval point you will need 4 players back to cover the spread. So probably a full back in the corridor in the 50 or on it, and three players positioned in a v off the back of the and the centre square to try and act like a funnel to the full back / sweeper.

Against wet toast we kicked it short in the backline , this could have been so that our forwards had

enough time to get back past the center and running toward our goals ? It is no good kicking

it quickly to the center as it would be past all of our players ?

Way back in the early 2000's, Essendon used to play "rope-a-dope" in defence. Their opponents would be in there for minutes, and when Essendon got it clear they ran like the clappers and scored. The slime are a bit similar - when they break from defence they may not have any forwards, but they know the drill and run really hard in numbers. When the ball gets to their forward line, they usually have a spare man and get a goal.
Sure the good sides have great skills, but in the case of the slime, they are very good at running hard.

The Egurls have also had a more than handy target in Kennedy, for what seems like forever. Having someone reliable inside the forward fifty arc is a useful commodity.

RL should give it a go sometime. It's a tactic that seems to work well for other teams. Especially the successful ones.

Repeatedly playing Ballantyne - is he the shortest bloke at Freo? - as full forward was brave and unconventional, but it never worked.
