I can see why some coaches want to retain being able to use a runner, as it’s a dynamic game that requires moves during a game. It’s because of blokes like the deaf cheats coach Richardson who almost permanently had a runner on the ground that they’ve clamped down.

Coaches don't want to give up any control. They've taken over the game. They would turn it into a live action video game if they could.

Sport should be in the moment, athletes making decisions against the pressure of the opposition and fatigue not old men in catered, air conditioned boxes having a say on every detail.

Getting rid of the runners is a teeny tiny step in the right direction.
