It did seem very subservient to me when I first read it. Did he have to say that, I initially thought?

And then I thought about it a little more, I reckon this issue actually has the capacity to go a bit "English Football in the 80's" on us. I am concerned that crowd angst at our next home derby is such that someone gets seriously hurt. We are very lucky to have this game, to live in this country and this city. I would be devastated if there is an off field incident.

I reckon this kid Brayshaw gets all that too. By Brayshaw doing this he is saying "I have moved on and if I can you can".

Lyon's comments:

"He stepped back into senior footy, head over the ball, his dad was confident, he was confident," Lyon said.

"A bit might be made of it (confronting Gaff) during the week, probably. Hopefully, Andrew feels like (talking).

"I think we should put him up, let him talk about it and then that's it, it will never be spoken about again and he can deal with it, because everyone's going to bring it up.

"We're probably fortunate we're playing the Eagles, and really for the other boy (Gaff) as well we all get to move on from it and keep going forward."

Which part of that do you disagree with? I think that's all a Head Coach can really say these days. I made a joke on here a few months ago about the AFL scheduling a night game for Freo's first home Derby against the Eagles/Gaff likely to cause a riot. It was a joke grounded in a little bit of actual concern about it.

Take the high ground in the media, let Brayshaw look like a champ of a bloke, and leave it to the players and fans to let Gaff know what they think of him. Isn't that the only way to play it?

The bit that stuck out for me showing the club hasn't moved on and retribution may be there is Lyons comment on "the other boy"

He clearly could have said Andrew Gaff, or Andrew or Gaff, but didn't.

I don't think he's anything other than a polite young man, hypen. He's not weighing up the safety of local football patrons and carefully making calculated statements to avoid igniting the cocaine driven violence of football hooligans against an economic underclass during Thatcher's Britain.

But if he is, he should just stop talking about it at all.

My hope is that the side has learnt from the Demo Derby. On that day the OOFTIT's had apparently heard rumours of the Freo players coming hard at them on game day all week. As a result the OOFTIT's reckon they went out there looking for a fight as Freo was going to be doing the same. At least that was their excuse for going out and punching kids back then.

I'm hopeful the public line is a decoy to catch them unaware in a pre season game where the result doesn't matter. Lull them into a false sense of security by talking up peace offerings and promoting forgiveness on their website and facebook pages. Then with the return of our thugs and big boys like Fyfe and Darcy from a week off, they hit the ground and the OOFTIT's hard on Sunday.

I want to see blue and yellow bodies cracking and bruised. I want the OOFTIT's to need a month of recovery from the game before they're ready for another physical contest. I want to dent their hopes of finals before the season even begins. I want retribution for a kid with a broken jaw and teeth shattered all over the floor.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I actually wondered the same thing Freo66, but I didn't want to read too much into it as it's also possible Lyon just forgot Gaff's name.

Morgan, I think that the chance of Lyon forgetting Gaff's name is zero.

Seriously, if you’ve been king hit ie without warning would you forget and forgive who did it?
I’m in the camp of Brayshaw is doing what he is to help him go forward.
The WCE players, fans and admin think we are a joke.
I actually hope they beat us on Sunday, to provide the extra motivation we’ll need in the first derby to win and silence the feral mob they are.

Shuey a Norm Smith winner.....I still can’t believe that.

Forget it - I haven't even moved on from the Headland/Scumwood outrage let alone that Dog Gaffy. Those wimps down in Cockburn had better quit their arselicking baloney and get some fire into the bellys of their players and supporters alike.

There’s arrogance and stupidity in Gaff doing what he did and staying in Perth, when there were plenty of other options for him to explore. Any sensible CEO, manager or advisor advice would have said time for a change.

...and ran off without so much as pausing to check he was ok. Even if you took Gaff's word that he was aiming for Brayshaw's chest, he must have known he actually ended up hitting him in the jaw.
