What I learned is that I can't recall one freo team since inception that has ever been skilful. Last 4 premierships won by clubs that very rarely turned the ball over so preparing myself for another very long season. But our coaching staff obviously don't think it's important because been no improvement.

Agree with that wingman but I would go back further than the last 4 premierships.

All of Clarkson's flags were done with a team that concentrated on skills as their top priority. Even Simpson made the comment when he took over that while the slime were fit, their skills were substandard.

Guess which team has outperformed us in almost every facet of the game. Guess which team has played in 2 Grannies since he took and guess which team has actually won a flag.

Skills are a little more important than some care to admit. A skillful team that puts in effort will generally easily beat a team that only has effort in it's arsenal

Mzungu is going to be busy, a tough job to run and manage the interchange the way it was set up today.
The ground level volume at Perth Stadium will be difficult to let the players know who will be interchanged, I could suggest we use numbers on a board similar to the substitutes in soccer.
Watched Peter Bell at the 3/4 time break, stood back and just observed from what I could tell.
Ross spent more time than I expected with the Ass Coaches than with players individually before the group huddle.
I’d prefer to see more player interaction at this point in the game, he’s been sitting next to an ass. all game.
Onfield leadership group could have more impact by being in the position to respond to in game situations quicker than waiting for an instruction from the runner.

So., ...the poor skills...who were the main offenders??
I mean, we've got rid of the 2 fellows who struggled in this department, and apparently, we've recruited/ drafted skillful young fellows into the team.
The blokes brought in via trades were half reasonable players before they got here....so - irrespective of heat and rustiness - who isn't making the grade???

Or is it just that theres still a crap gameplan, that ends up putting everyone under ptessure as per the last 6 years?.

Or, is it that there's just no-one standing up and demanding a standard be set.?

Warm up game or not....if game culture is gonna change, its got to start Day 1.

Blue1red1
Well Here it goes:
We have a whole lot of blokes who have not played a lot of footy together. Why are we mucking about today in 40C and playing Ducks and Drakes, Like What is Matera doing in the back line and Pearce doing in the forward line???
How about, some bright spark, looks at the mob, organises the sods according to their talent and get their input into how they recon they should structure up and play the game as a team. You know, like Lobb saying "Hey I want to be a forward and not a Ruck," Hogan Saying, "Hey I like to lead at a player and not have to back into a pack and have my Back caved in...". Mikey Saying "Hey you know as a Forward front and centre I have magic to share"
Then the Coaches can say, right, we like the way you blokes think, lets practise this in the JLT, and at Training we are going to get you blokes to practise your basic footy skills until you pass a base level of expectation to execute this idea.
Lucky I am not running the show, as I'd be getting rid of the Gator Aid, and replacing it with Ice bucket challenges and Water blasters and an Esky with a ice cold EB to have as you hit the Ice bath.

I'm not sure, but I think there is some unhappiness with our performance today. Tone, attitude...geez, easy boys and girls, let's not read too much into our entries. It's all just fun isn't it?

Its deja vu isn't it? Like when the egurls thrashed us in the pre season game last year. That game showed just how good they were going to be, and just how bad we were going to be. And the other pre season game where the Pies thrashed us down at Rushton Park last year. You could see it then that they had future grand finalists written all over them.
So yes, I'd say that the pre season games are a very good guide to how a team will go in the real season, and right now, I'm worried.

Well, I wasn't completely unimpressed.

Even Ross gets what a load of wank this preseason stuff is. In 400 degree heat.

"...it was very trying conditions, but I thought both teams really whacked away."

I learnt that it was bloody hot. But considering it usually doesn't reach 40 during the footy season I'm not overly worried.

I learnt that it was the first game of the pre season, but considering it is only pre season I'm not overly worried.

I learnt that dockerland after a loss (even jlt1) is akin to the YouTube comments section. Truly a place where humanity goes to die.

Stay chill everyone. I feel like a few people on here may be working themselves into a state. Go buy yourself a pack of cam mac 25s
I though Jones was ok

I thought the players were ok, they did what they were trained to do. And they did not do what they have not been trained to do. They are following the game plan perfectly.

Unfortunately.

With the home ground , the heat and the crowd on Collingworthnotmuch's side they should have won ? OH crap .

Well we all have to have faith in the fact that we are going to win the GF by next year , No excuses !

Ross also said he is a better coach now than he has ever been so nothing to worry about .

In the footsteps of Dad’s Army “Don’t Panic!!!” Although I think Captain Mannering will be put up against the wall if our silky skills don’t improve! Is it just me or do I feel another “ rebuild phase” coming along from the guy that brought us “ developing the youngsters..... inside pressure..... it is what it is.....turnovers really cost us......aaaahhhh!! More will be revealed in his latest AFL bestseller “ I was a custard pie with a soggy crust”.
