Shane you have managed to turn an innocent coaching appoinment into an insuation that the person is actually guilty of an act of which he was a witness FFS.

In this day and age of social media you need to be careful what you print.

The matter was handled by the courts and should be left at that. The same as the thousands of accusations targeted at top sports people who get in trouble with drugs , women or whatever.

You've been selective and shouldn't have gone down this road.

I don't believe I made any accusations that he broke the law. That was not my intent.

I do believe it's a question of character though and I am very much questioning his character and the decision by the club to appoint him. I don't want my membership fees going into his pocket.

Opposition analyst on the other side of the country. Seriosly how much value can this really add, and why does it need to be someone with a high profile, and I assume therefore inflated salary.
I don’t recall the actual outcome from court proceedings so I choose to refrain from that side of the debate.
I have posted previously about our assistant coaching positions. I would have much preferred more time and resources be allocated to strengthening this area.
Without being privy to the inside workings of the club, strong assistants in the form of Scott and Kirk seemed to have a good influence on our o field performance.

I agree with Shanes' take on this, the AFL is trying to clean up it's act. If you live in a Rugby League focused community, as I do, you would understand where Shane is coming from. League players have been notorious over the years for their treatment of women (NOT all, or even a majority, but a big enough minority to make it a serious problem) and the big bosses of the comp are now at a loss as to how to deal with the problem. We at Freo take a pretty hard line on the eagles culture, and I for one am now very wary of throwing any stones.

Certain facts were established in court and have not been contested.

The indecent assault took place and Milne admitted his guilt. Montagna observed the activity and he also gave evidence to support Milne.

The claim that we'll never know what happened is a bogus claim because the comments disagreeing with this appointment have been made in the basis of what has been established.

Of course, the truth could be much, much worse but we can go by has been established.

I personally do not regard somebody who could observe that and then knowingly support the perpetrator to be a person that I would associate with and I feel the same way about my club associating with him.

Did he ‘support’ Milne in court? From memory the original investigation was mired in rumours of Victorian Police misconduct and Milne wasn’t charged around the time.

Then years later, there was a review & Milne was charged with Indecent Assault which he pleaded guilty too.

From my probably shoddy recollection, I can’t think of any trial that occurred so not sure where Montagna would have given evidence ...

Unless is was some media thing of course ...
