The best thing about the women’s game is how hard at it they are. You never ever see one of them pull out of a contest or take a backwards step.
At one point the commentators were talking about a pies player and how tough she is. As they were speaking, she went up for a mark and was sandwiched between the spoiler from behind ( who wasn’t actually going for the ball IMO) and another Docker running back with the flight. The trainer picked her up off the deck and helped her off the ground. The camera panned to her face, and she was laughing her head off.
She thought it was hilarious that she’d just been polaxed

Two things I like about the AFLW. First, I've noticed more shepherding than in the men's game. Second, I like the throw-in rule where the ball is thrown in about 10 m from the boundary line. Less opportunity for congestion and the ball can get into the corridor more quickly.

I've enjoyed a few things about the AFLW so far.

I've liked the aggression shown. It's not been over the top but nobody is taking a backward step and they're not shy about letting the opposition know all about it.

I've also enjoyed the players taking the game on and backing themselves in. It falls flat at times but when it goes off, it adds a lot of excitement to the game.

I really like the way they're playing to their strengths and not trying to change players to fit into a plan imposed from outside.

Absolutely worth watching and I hope they continue to do more of the same

Yeti, I agree, it looks like the game we knew before slow motion replay analysis by experts who have no other way of earning a dollar, made coaches too scared to do something different.What I loved about 60's, 70's and 80's footy was that you could not predict what was going to happen, and yes, not all of it was precise and correct skills, but it was exciting to watch. These days you know it will be kicked, and if not marked, 15 players will fall on the footy, then that will be repeated til the siren sounds for the end of the quarter.

I thought the skill level wasn't too bad tbh.

They were able to go end to end without Collingwood getting their hands on the ball and that was through hitting targets or kicking to advantage. The biggest flaw I saw was decision making on occasion and that not much of a flaw because much of the time it was pretty good.

When you take the game on like they are doing, you will make wrong calls at times but thats part of pushing the edge. Mistakes are unavoidable but if your skills are good then you'll have more decisions that work than those that don't.

It was good positive footy without sacrificing defence and without overblowing defence as well. With some speedy girls in the midfield, having a game plan that backs them to run it forward and a coach that tells them to forget mistakes and keep trying to run it forward is resulting in not just exciting footy but success as well.

I have to say, I've enjoyed watching the girls more than I've enjoyed watching the senior team lately.

Yeah, Yeti, I was probably making a point to those who say watching 70's era footy is not as good as we pretend because the precise skills are not there, like we see today. BUT, players tackling by falling on an opponent, and the big pile-up then ball up that results in modern footy is not what I would call a great display of skills. The 1 on 1 contests that we saw, the high marking because the ball was allowed to be kicked to a contest, and the snapped goals because players did not have to kick the ball to the "hot spot" were a highlight.

In answer to your question PP, the conference system doesn’t ‘work’ because one conference appears to be stronger than the other, however, with regards to finals: the top two from each conference go through with top teams playing second team in the other conference with the winners going into the GF.

Great last qtr to get the job done against the reigning champs, however after a 4:1 start we are only 3rd in our conference! If we miss finals after winning 5 of 7 games I’ll be ropable.
