A happy 2019 to all Dockerlanders. The beginning of the year usually brings lots of optimism and this preseason is no different. I was caught out last year and my disappointment soared to the unbelievable level of the Geelong away game.
I’m going to keep a lid on Freo’s chances of going up the ladder until the first few games.
I expect the first home game against North will have me very nervous as I remember them giving us a touch up at home in 2018. I’m looking forward to watching the youngsters progress and how the new recruits go. I’m hoping Jesse H can take the field in the early rounds and I look forward to see how we replace Neale.
I keep my fingers crossed on injuries and I expect improvement but I’ll wait to see the changes that’ll bring back excitement to our supporters.

Theres always a surprise packet in every season, and I reckon it might be us this season. Got to admit, I'm a bit "Jezza-rish" about our chances.....

All comes down to gameplan, and how successfully the new rules change the way RoLy thinks.

We'll know by rd 6....it'll be a year of no excuses , and hopefully one of low tolerance of failure....

The other mob bottom 4 definitely....and I hope their bloody hangover hurts and doesnt subside until about 2037....

I'm with you Cletus, we are a chance to be the bolter. I think we have been so disillusioned with the style of play the club gets, relatively speaking, a free pass on their greatest failing -

Putting and keeping their best talent on the park.

Its been woeful for so long now. If we can keep something like our best 22 out there, we'll have a good year.

Ah Welcome Back Welcome Back Welcome Baacckk ( Richie Benaud font implied ) I think we are gonna be fit fast and hard to match up on this year, I also haven’t been this optimistic about a young Dockers squad in January for quite some time. If we don’t have excessive injuries I think Belly and co will quietly be expecting bottom of the 8 and a long hard look at RTB if he can’t deliver that with this group in 2019.

Jezza's predictions are about as accurate as a drunk throwing darts blindfolded. He's rarely gonna hit let alone score big but when he does, you'll all hear about it!

Even his comparisons are clearly wrong with Brayshaw absolutely nothing like Macrae. Macrae has been dropped a number of times for being a soft outside runner who goes forward of the play too often. He's not an inside player like Brayshaw but an outside distributor who has added other elements to his game along with a bigger body and tank in the past couple of years. Cerra is a closer comparison.

In any case, I'm a bit more realistic and not expecting a lot. Our forwardline will hopefully be better but given RL is still coach, I doubt he knows how to structure them well enough to get good use of our new talls. Our midfield will be weaker despite some kids improvement but will depend almost entirely on Fyfe staying fit and not bashing anyone. Our backline will continue in the same vein and hopefully RL actually spends some time on devising a way to get the footy out of there instead of just telling everyone to flood back. Maybe the new kick out rule will help.

I'd think somewhere around 8-10 wins if we don't cop too many injuries. More if we had a good coach.

Said it before now - amd aplogies Bill Hayden - but a Drover's dog would get this squad into the 8, and as Hypen says, if we can keep the majority fit, I really think we can aim higher.

Yes Bizkit, it relies on one bloke working out how to utilize a forward line....and accepting that kicking goals is an important part of the game.

Challenge and pressure is on him, and if he has shown no change in his defensive, mundane ways by rd 6, he should be frogmarched out of the place....

If we can't manage more than 8-10 wins Roly's gone. FFS, 8 wins is what we've managed the last two disgraceful seasons.

If that does happen I'll look forward to seeing photos of Jezza packing Roly's bags and escorting him to the plane, as he has promised.

Only problem with that is he's promised so many things over the years and then found excuses to worm his way out that I'm not sure it would happen.

im optimistically pessimistic at this time of the year based on 20 years of carp.
Team shmeam ...if the other mob can win a cup with their average side and without their best ruckman,etc I guess it all comes down to luck and a coach....so i'll drink to luck COS WE HAVNT GOT THE OTHER ONE!!

Happy 2019 everyone.
I'm full of optimism this year as I was last year until around game 3.
Let's hope things turn around for the club and there is less fighting and bickering amongst ourselves in Dockerland.
I was really over that aspect last year in what is a great group of people.
