“I think we’ve got some of the best sports science team in the league.”

I’m not sure I agree, but I’m curious why Jezza needs to submit evidence to support his opinion that Freo’s sports science team is good when people have been confortably claiming our sports science team is incompetent for years without any comparison data to other teams.

Yes we have injuries, and yes some players take a while to recover, and yes some players have recurring injuries, but so does ever team and saying you think our staff are doing a bad job is no more persuasive that Jezza saying he thinks they are doing a good job.

I don't think you're really curious at all.

I am.

The AFL does an injury study every year to look at trends across the league. I’d love to see how our injury rates compare to the league average.

I feel like we have had a few more injuries than other teams, but other the occasional check of the league injury reports - where we seem to have rough the same number of injured players as other teams - I’ve never seen any data either way.

I just find it interesting that the absence of data doesn’t bother people when someone is alleging negligence by Freo’s fitness/medical team, but as soon as someone suggests they are good it’s like ‘where’s your proof’.

I think it betrays a greater inclination to find fault, is all.

"I feel like we have had a few more injuries than other teams"

Contradiction. Obviously something we would want to fix and when your own coach and board were not happy with the injury toll last year and wanted to know why in the end of year review, are you saying they were wrong too?

I feel like we have had more injuries than we should, but that doesn't mean we have. I also feel we have had players out longer than we should.

What I don't know is whether my feeling is consistent with reality. I think a review is a very sensible idea, and I'm glad that Freo are investigating rather than making a call to sack people who might be good at their job based on a general sense of things.

All I'm saying is that the apparent failings of our fitness/medical team are presented as fact. I've never seen anything approaching evidence to support that view. Yet Jezza floated an opinion, and is asked to back it up. I'd really like to know how our injuries track against the league average, and it sounds like Freo's admin do as well.

I don't believe you're curious. I think if someone gave you an answer you would argue the point. You're actually trying to belittle people who expressed an opinion by making a ridiculous notion that they should be able to produce a scientific report about football injuries.

I don't even know what "some of the best sports science team" means, it sounds like a Trump impression, but I feel like it was a deliberately exaggerated statement designed to push the other side of the argument to an extreme point and get a reaction.

it’s not the amount of injuries we get that i find the issue, it is the recurrent injuries and inability to get our guys up and running again. i’m sure our injury rate is similar to other clubs but i’d love to know stats on “time out” due to an injury and “rate of recurrence” of the same injury - just comparing to the eagles.... they manage to get kennedy, darling, jetta, le cras, mcgovern, etc etc up and running with significant injuries but we can’t even get a low grade strain injury up and going after 3 months ! And for others we send to Germany or an injection...give me a break....

I think Walter and CA were trying to belittle Jezza, who expressed an opinion, by asking Jezza to produce evidence about football injuries. It's nice that you are concerned about their well-being, but they've been around a while and I reckon they can take it.

For what it's worth, I probably don't need to defend Jezza because he seems impervious to slights against him.

But I look forward to this new belittle-free Dockerland. Just so we're clear, is all belittling off limits, or are we just not allowed to make fun of the opinions you agree with?

No need to Morgansplain what I said back to me.

I didn't really say not to belittle anyone. I just said that I think that's what you're attempting to do.

We do seem to have a lot of injuries that our teem of experts can't fix !

The proof that some are interested in and some aren't is = the injuries that don't get fixed .

Well, for what it's worth, I wasn't trying to belittle CA and Walter. Of the regular posters on this site, I reckon more than most they try to be at least a little even-handed when sticking it to the club. I was merely trying to point out the hypocrisy of demanding proof to support an opinion, given this site seems largely dedicated to unsupported claims about the failings of the club.

You're saying it's good to have a review into this ongoing concern. Well why would you need to have a review if nothing was wrong and all are happy with the spate of injuries you "feel" are more than normal?

That's crap, Morgan.

Jezza, made a silly statement and got called on it...as well you know.

There's being contrary and there's being ridiculous.

When jezza was asked to justify the statement he made, you typically went after those asking for him to justify it. Let's not pretend it was anything else

It’s like Stephen Hill is the first footy player to reach 200 games and be prone to leg injuries.
