Well, most of the time in work situations, the buck stops with the manager...in this case the head of physiotherapy, and possibly the fitness boss as well. Can't remember who they are, doesn't really matter who, but if there is a serious problem with these areas, wouldn't the managers be accountable, ultimately?

Hill has been very resilient as a player, and until last year never played fewer than 18 games, so the fitness staff have done pretty well by him for almost 200 games. But the reality is he's got a few miles on his legs. I don't know much about quad injuries, but he's a power runner, and it doesn't seem like there are many easy fixes. I assume the fitness staff were checking to see if the offseason break would help, and it hasn't done the trick.

I'd love to know from the assembled medical experts what they would have done instead? Off-season surgery? Give him an extended break? Started on a lower load and tried to increase it over time?

Recurent injuries, one would suspect it has something to do with the training regime. eg Hamstrings injuries quite often from too much bike riding, not sure what quad injuries relate too, but .

Yep, they all sound good to me. Surgery as the last resort. But they went with the do nothing and hope for the best approach it seems.

I don’t know, it seems to me Doctors quite often prescribe rest. It also seems to me that Freo and most other AFL clubs have no hesitation in sending players for offseason surgery where they think it will help.

This isn’t a joint, so you can’t just put a screw in it. It is the main driving muscle in a player whose power running is his most important attribute.

The reports said it was soreness from kicking. Probably too much skills training.

Jezza - you say that “I think we’ve got some of the best sports science team in the league.”

Can you offer any evidence to support this statement or are you just wanting to believe it?

Hardly too much skills training, Morgan.

20 minutes isn't all that stressful....unless of course they are so out of practice that it hurts

Yeah, but most other players split that kicking time between both legs.

And therein lies the problem. Stephen started breaking down when RoLy started this forced kicking off the wrong'un at training - and Matera started performing like a moron. It's RoLy's fault for sure, they should dump him.

Surgery is the answer, when the suspension is stuffed ya gotta head to the mechanic - rest in a hospital bed after surgery with your Xbox. If you've got a choice transplant some super quads in there - head to Germany or someplace foreign and get some Eichmann to do the job.

“I think we’ve got some of the best sports science team in the league.”

So if this is the case why Jezza was even your mancrush Roly critical of the number of injuries and length of time out for key players last year.

Give us the proof of your claim. Insight us with your background knowledge of the team, their qualifications, previous workplaces, success stories, etc. You know the saying, either put up or.....

It's a mighty big call from claiming Bennell as the saviour of a lot of our problems to being responsible for his injury worries or not overcoming them.

When I heard about Stephen Hill’s tweaked quad I muttered “ oh no not Hilly, not again, he’s just got back to training and he’s done his quad, oh no”. I was expecting another 2-4 week lay off or an update to TBA/TBC.
Please, we need S Hill on the park as often as possible. He’s an asset (thanks Shane). He’s one of our great players. Medicos do your magic and get him right! Sport science people design a program that will keep one of our most valuable players capable of running out to play every week.

The worry for me, apart from Jezza’s Trump like approach to unsubstantiated “facts” (still waiting for a response Jezza), is that Hill has been out with this injury for the best part of the year and we are still at the stage of having to consult specialists to ascertain the nature of the problem. Were we expecting his problem to self heal?
