TOPIC: Ian Hill

I remember watching his highlights last year and thinking we are gonna need a top 3 pick to have a chance at him. If he’s still there at 14 grab him.

Our starting 22 doesn’t have any obvious gaps. We should just take the best kid from WA available; I’m guessing whomever is available out of Hill or Clark.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Liam Stocker would be worth a look. A mate of Bradshaws kicks both feet ready to go.

Clark every single time. He is an out and out star. Discussion is irrelevant though as he wont be available at 14. Could we get Hill at pick 30odd that we have?

Yes, Alfie Clark does look good as well, I guess its a case of what sort player we need most and who is available at 14.
I doubt that either of them will be available at pick 31 though.
For balance.

I would prioritise clark over hill in the draft, ive heard word he wants to spend a bit of time at a vic club but then come back to play with brad and stephen.. clark off half back would mean blakely hill and cerra can spend more time on the ball. With them on the ball walters goes forward.. hopefully

Carter we can match any bid for and doubt it will come in the 1st round.

We have a few mid/half backs already. We don't have an instinctive attacking small forward. Take Hill. Both good players, take what we need.

Surely we all remember the last Hill we looked past in the draft? Little bugger went off and won 3 premierships before we could get him back.

I would be happy with Hill.. we need a small forward or an inside mid.. I would be happy with Liam Stocker too.. Looking at the past Morrish Medal winners in Clayton Oliver and company looks impressive.. Didn’t play all the games and still beat Sam Walsh by 5 votes.. if we go for Hill then Ely Smith might be available at 31 who could be an inside mid worth looking at.

I reckon Tom Medhat will be better than any of those youngsters

We can get Tom Medhat for virtually nothing Yoss...I doubt he would be drafted in the top 60 at which stage we can match and pick up with a trade value discount through next gen academy..
Lets hope he is as good as you say..

Our first pick is at 14 which is likely to move back a few with all of Blakey, Thomas and West likely to receive bids by then. That makes it effectively pick 17.

I have Hill around the 25 mark so it would probably be a reach for him although I know many on here are scared of the go home factor. I don't worry about it much, Perth is a great place to live and should be an easy sell to most kids, especially if you treat them well. Even if they do go, you should be able to get something good back. I believe you get the best available.

Clark is likely to be gone by 17 but he'd be my favourite over Hill given his size and readiness for AFL. His disposal is very good, he makes fantastic decisions and has a football brain. He knows where to go to get the ball and what to do with it. I see him as a midfielder at AFL level but he can develop from half back first. I reckon he's in a similar mould to a Mundy (who went at pick 19 in his draft) where he was drafted as a defender but had the brain and ability to move into the middle and play as both an in and outside mid.

There's a few Victorian inside mids who I'd grab next if available like Stocker and Caldwell. Again, I don't think they'll be there at our pick but if they were, I wouldn't hesitate to replace Neale with them.

Hill probably won't get through to our next pick but I'd give it a chance. I don't see West Coast grabbing him in the early 20's, especially with Rioli and Ryan up forward. If an interstate side grabs him though, he'd be a good chance to be heading back our way in a couple of years time to play with his cousins. On his size and ability at the moment, I don't see him getting many opportunities in his first couple of seasons so he could be a bargain trade for us in the future.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.
