Silvagni once said it's easy to build a list capable of making the eight a lot harder to build one to win a flag.

Your foundations are your early draft picks derived from the best talent.

If people think we have enough of that high end talent now to win a flag, I am happy to go along with that. As I say, our best 22 looks more talented than the 2013 team.

The point is we've tried drafting forwards and tried recruiting forwards but none have performed at the level anywhere near #29 recently.

McCarthy and Kersten gave hope but they are still not at the required level. Matera - nuff said.

Taberner and Cox show real potential but can't kick straight. Apeness shows potential in the 3 games a year he plays before getting injured.

We all pilloried Darling but he came good.

AFAIC, Hogan and Lobb are at ground zero and until they prove they're any good playing for Freo, they are just additions the the list above.

These gurus have developed a wizzbang player value analytical engine, fed this year's data, and started turning the handle.

What came out: Freo picked up the most long-term benefit in this trade . North Melbourne gained the most for 2019.

Both GWS and GC had enough high end talent that most pundits suggested they’d reign for 10 years. The former now experienced an exodus of players due to enormous pay packets. Nothing is guaranteed, high end talent or not. Our current list which includes yesterday’s haul, on paper, are better than the premiers. So this is why Roly had a 2020 vision. I can see clearly now.

I also loved reading this somewhere on some AFL website trade summary:

The decision to send a press release all but calling off the Hogan pursuit might need a re-think into the future.

Because what? Because it cause a bunch of journos and internet commentators to write an inordinately large amount of embarrassing crap?

How many top 10 draft picks have we traded into the club in the last 5 years?

All Bell said was "we are not going to pay the asking price" Bell did not pay the asking price. End of argument, journo's.

The other bit was where Bell said we'd not be continuing with the due diligence process. That doesn't mean we don't still want Hoges, it means we've found out what he's worth and don't need to know any more than what we now know.

Anyone so boneheaded as to describe that as a dummy spit, or think that it's a definite end to negotiations, deserves to be ignored. Unless you've got a bridge to sell - in which case take them out for a slap-up meal at Outback Steakhouse and fleece them for all they've got.

The media's obsession with a person walking away during negotiations but coming back again and achieving their desired objective is plain bizarre.

I almost felt sorry for those nitwits on AFL trade low down last night - they really had nothing to talk about.

The Good: I've always been a big Hogan fan and I'm stoked to see him in purple. I wanted us to go harder at getting him when he was available as a priority signing ahead of the draft but we never showed much interest. He's a jet and if he gets on the field, he'll drag his teammates with him towards finals contention.

The Bad: Bringing in Lobb. He's not young and doesn't offer anything we don't already have. His form has been average, he's copped a lot of pretty serious injuries and I'm not sure he'll flourish under a RL structure. What we could have potentially had in Rankine or one of the other talls is a huge opportunity missed and I wouldn't have downgraded our selections from pick 5 or 6 to Lobb and a later first round pick. Between Tabs and Ape, I would have hoped we'd be fine up forward now Hogan's here.

The Biggest Question: How do we structure up and will it change RL's tactics (haha, who am I kidding, he never changes)?

Deal or No Deal:
i. Reece Conca (for three years): I don't see him adding much but sure, another small mid who can't kick.
ii. Jesse Hogan and #64 for Picks #6 and #23: In a heartbeat.
iii. Pick 6, Pick 19 and Pick 55 for Lachie Neale and Pick 30: I would've liked to hold pick 30 but if he's going, he's going.
iv. Rory Lobb, Pick 14, Pick 43 and Pick 47 for Pick 11 and Pick 19: No deal.
v. Colyer. No deal, another small mid who isn't a great kick and struggles to find the footy.

Overall: 7/10 anchors for Bell although I think Hogan did most of the work.

As for a dockerland meet up, we gather for a few post DuFFLe beers at the end of each season. The more the merrier in future but I'll warn you, Mercury will drink you dry.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

So including the concessions made to GWS and GCS where they each grabbed 12 players in no particular order that included Nathan Wilson and Branden Matera, we can boast 9 top 10 players and 12 first round picks, this excludes scrubbers like Nat Fyfe who went at pick 20, Ballantyne at 21 and Lobb at 29.

Bizkit you are completely wrong on Lobb. Forget this season where he had to spend most of it rucking, he is a fine contested mark and very good off his feet, we don't have any talls that are like that definitely not 211 or darcy. In concert with Tabs, Hogan and Lobb we will see a vastly different forward setup that our mids will love to kick to!

The rule changes will also force RL to make adjustment whether he likes it or not.
