Well I'm all for getting Hoges and Lobb instead of some maybe/maybe nots that go home after serving their two years post draft. The idea is for the bulk of the players to gell into a team, to play as a unit. We've got our teenagers from the last couple of drafts, now let's develop them before Stephen Hill grows a grey beard.

Sean Darcy is a terrific talent, and he also seems to be a nice young bloke. You could see that from space, so I am fairly sure that the people who work with him every day will be well aware of that; if we don't hang onto him then the Club should be shut down. Also, his 'home' in Victoria (Cobden), while I am sure it is a lovely place, is about as close to Adelaide as it is to Melbourne, and has a population of less than 2,000. If one day he decides he'd prefer to live in Melbourne (or elsewhere) in preference to Perth, that's an issue with Perth.

Who knows what Port are doing? If you want to question a list strategy, how does this stack up?

i. Gray, Westhoff, Ryder, Dixon, Rockliff, Hartlett, Ebert, Jonas, Boak, Motlop, Broadbent, Watts = all 28+
ii. Traded one 25yo (Polec), shopping the other (Wingard)
iii. Attempting to convert a handful of good/solid picks into a couple of great/very good ones, plus a few latter picks next year for Mead/Burgoyne father-son points-wrangling.

Are they still trying to win now or rebuilding?

I think they are going all in on trying to get elite homegrown SA talent, knowing future drafts won't have that, even though it doesn't fit with their list at all. I can see the logic, but I'm not sure why you go out and get guys like Watts and Rockliff if you aren't trying to win now.

I'm with Mike on this one.

I don't think Darcy would be attracted by the bright lights of Cobden and he seems pretty settled here. He's definitely one player to put the effort into retaining.

He'll also be our no 1 ruckman no matter how will Lobb goes, so even less reason to return to Victoria.

WTB yes they did blood some new guys. They also had a core, 12 I recall, of players who had played in a GF and a very much unacknowledged elite Assistant coach of Mitchell who I think was the difference between them not getting up in 2015.

If we get the ‘culture’ right and the team dynamic is good next year, I think we can be top 5-8.

Hypen, Port gave up so many picks because our pick allows them to pick up a Crow Eater kid. They are more valuable to them than to us, simply because of this fact. Good move from Bell to recognise the added value Port was to place on this and to capitalise.

Apparently this years draft has multiple generational players.
Bennell could very well have been one of these, hasn't panned out.
Biz you espoused SPS as a must have last year. On the evidence available he is going to be a good player but I would doubt he will reach these heights and definitely not a player that you could build a list around.
Hogan is a genuine power forward that can change the way your team plays and somebody you can structure a game around.
West Coast had a very tall team this year and dominated in the air.
