TOPIC: Port Pick Swap

Agree Boz, that sounded just a little too panicky from GLyon.

The Dees were already picking out the jumper number for May on the back of their confidence we would bend over for Hogan.

Pick 11 & next year’s first round or we wait and see how his foot comes up next season.

Besides, as far as I know Hogan hasn’t even announced yet that he wants to be traded. Sounds like Melbourne might be making that decision for him.

Crikey, Freo holding the upper hand at trade time. Strange days indeed.

Perhaps Polly but Hogan will not make enough of a difference to get us a flag and trading away 2 first rounders is a big price to pay.

I'm not convinced he's worth 2 first rounders to us right now.

We have some depth now assuming we get Lobb, so what will Hogan do for our flag chances in the next few years? Not that much I would think

These pick swaps hopefully bring us back into contention for Ian Hill.

If, as expected, LN goes and we get their pick 5 and either another late first round pick this year (from them packaging up a pick swap with another club) or their first pick next year, we’ve got plenty of ammo to land Lobb & Hogan and keep our early draft pick AND pick up Hill with #11 - well, it’ll go down as one of the best draft/trade periods in our history. And that’s saying something after last year’s bonanza.

Amazing what a few fresh perspectives on the list management side of things can produce.

The smartest thing for us to do here is do the Neale trade at the very last minute. Keeps the Dees away from pick 5.

Yeti, Hogan alone may not but Lobb and Hogan and throw in Cammac and Tabs, now we’re talking. It’s the sum of all parts. All we need now is our mids to make those connections in our fwd line work, tell me that doesn’t get your juices flowing. That means we pick up another mid in this year’s draft. That’s what I’m talking about. You can’t get enough of those mids who wins you a GF.

Polly, if you are close to Hoges, could you have a quiet word to him and tell him he needs to request a Trade - and nominate Freo as the club. Apparently these announcements of your intent are important.

I reckon this is a poor trade. The kids from pick 10 to 35 are interchangeable, it's those top half dozen or so where the elite talent is and trading out of there is silly. I'm far less keen to bring in older players for a rebuild that is no where near finished.

The way I see it, we've given up on an elite talent like a Pavlich or Judd for a few Sheridan's. It means we absolutely have to get Hogan or the trade period is a bust.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Actually Browski, I'm hoping dees are banking on us taking Hogan, we play hardball and only offer pick 13 and a future first rounder.

we end up with
Pick 5 and maybe a second rounder for Neale.
Hogan
Lobb
Conca
Pick 49

That is even a better result.

I think if Jesse slides the Weagles will be sniffing around with high picks in an effort to replace Josh Kennedy who will be almost set for retirement after next season.

AFL site:
The Dockers have given up their prized pick No.6 and a future third-round pick in exchange for picks 11, 23, 30 and 49.

Depending on what we get for Lachie...I reckon this looks pretty good. More bargaining power and if no Hogan, still a couple of high end picks.
The draft strength is all conjecture. No one knows how the young player will turn out, really...so everyone tries to choose wisely. But the difference between a number 9 or a number 11...is really just an opinion at this stage.

Surely you’re not saying the draft is a lottery Suker.

Not quite a lottery, more like a day at the races. You have your form guide and some intuition, and some mates telling you you're a bloody moron, and what do you do? You just have a go...

Can they just come out and say that they have botched the rebuild and we're having another go around.

I like this deal. We have now secured a real hand in the draft. Something I was worried about when we traded away our participation in this years draft.
Coupled with the announcement from Beams, gives us a strong position in the negotiations around Neale.
Trying to put a positive spin on it. None of us liked the way our team performed this year but over the last two years. We have finally secured some top end picks which we may be able to grab that power forward we were never able to get through free agency or lower first round picks that we had.
Trading always required giving up something to get something.
