A good negotiator still gets a deal done at the end of the day.

Walking away is cutting out nose off to spite our face.

I may be wrong but I haven’t heard of too many foot injuries like Hogan’s being career ending in this day and age.

The Neale deal should have been done early because he is going to Brisbane come Wednesday and with that deal done we could have still done the pick swap with Port and then played hardball with Melbourne.

So which full forwards are going to be a target for the next 5 years? None spring to mind particularly those that express a desire to return to WA. If Hogan doesn’t come we can’t exactly bemoan the fact we need a good full forward because we’ve had our chance.

I think Melbourne are trading hime because of money. Apparently his asking price is 900k a year.
If thats the case I can see why Belly is talking about due diligence.

If the deal was dead then Melbourne would've wheeled out Jesse with the ol' "great to be playing at the club next year.... the foot is feeling great...blah blah blah "

Hasn't happened. Negotiations still live.

If you buy a used car and the timing chain is buggered you take off your water pump and get a new timing chain on. You trust your mechanic if you're too lame to do it yourself - no one is going to write off the car because of it.

So you're willing to put your trust in the Freo fitness staff and famously soft Optus Stadium turf for a delicate injury like a foot stress fracture?

Maybe he could borrow Sandi's custom basketball boots?

When Karl ‘Gold Jacket’ Langdon is coming out on the side of reason and supporting the decision by Bell et al to tell both Melbourne & Brissie we won’t be dictated too - well, the world really has turned on its head.

Just to clarify, I’m not referencing this article to attempt to confirm an opinion I happen to support. More just to show there still exists an ‘us & them’ mentality in some local medja types who, even when the target is their natural ‘enemy’ - they go into bat just to tell the Vics where to shove it.

Regardless of what transpires over the next few days, mark my words the days of Freo being taken for a ‘soft’ target at the trade table are over.

I don't buy that rhetoric about the hard turf at Optus - they tried the same baloney about Freo Oval. But sure, get a new mechanic if he keeps saying there's not enough light in the workshop.

So whose foot do we transplant onto Hogan - like swapping out a water pump - Tabs??

If you know you have to do some work on the car then you factor that into the price you pay. This is a late model Lamborghini you are bidding for. The guy is 23 yrs old.
I’m going all Jezza and hoping Freos due diligence is up to standard here because really nobody on this forum knows.
If you think he is good for 100 games over the next 6 or 7 years then pay accordingly.
If not then walk away and rely on the HiLux for a few more years.

I disagree, KK. Walking away is a solid sales technique that forces the other party to take a position. It requires reasonably large cojones but it also has the effect of leaving your opposite number in no doubt as to the exact largeness of said avocados.

Let’s just hope that the mechanic we’ve got doing the due diligence on the Lamborghini isn’t the same guy who’s been specialising in the Datsun Sunny.

You only need to play hard on a couple of "take it or leave it" deals before the market gets the message that "Take it or leave it" means you take the deal or we leave the deal. Freo have been the suckers in too many deals in the past, about time we took a hard line.

KingKepler, ever heard of a bloke called Jack Trengove? Exact same injury as hogan, navicular stress fracture. Missed a whole year with it, came back, reinjured a year later, never been the same since.

Also for all the freo baggers. This has got nothing to do with fremantle being "difficult" or "bluffing" to get a better deal. Without saying too much, the dockers have genuinely cooled on hogan after doing their "due diligence" on his "off field issues". The club has been burnt before by players with similar "issues" (mccarthy, bennel, everybody get the hint?). Duffield, langdon, everyone in the media knows it but cant say it. Of course, freo can't come out and make that statement either. Why do you think melbourne is so keen to get rid of a promising young player?

Fremantle are open to getting a deal done, but they know the risks and dont think they are worth compromising their future for. Stop bagging the club for doing something right for once.
