TOPIC: Lobb et al

GWS have salary cap problems and need to offload players.
They overcommitted on contracts several years ago and it's coming to bite them.

Where's the problem? We've got heaps of developing rucks and with Hoges and Lobby we'll have heaps of good marking tall forwards. What about Tabs, Cox, Apeness, Dixon, Strad? Simple, whoever kicks heaps of goals stays in, the rest to the magoos - kick heaps down there and you're back up to the bigs.

That's the same with every other football team, anywhere. If you want to argue about that, get the girlfriend and head to Brisbane.

Cletus, sorry, the question isn’t whether or not Lobb is elite. He is. The question is whether or not he’s injury-prone. The way he plays and the past back injury worries me, not whether or not he’s elite.

Yeti, NicNatNoStat is a freak of nature with his size and athleticism. He’s the quintissential low-stat player, but that one goal every three games helps win a match; that rare mark tends to be a mark-of-the-year screamer. In this way, dare I say it, he’s Cyril-like; he makes players around him better. And, finally, his bustle means even big-bodied mids play apprehensively when he’s around. He’s also rarely beaten (even compared to Sandi) in tap knocks because of his leap. Speaking of his leap, he’s a 101 kg beast coming off an ACL in both knees. I can’t see him contending for the Cyril-type role any time soon. Coming back from one ACL is risky enough. Ask Morabito, Menzel, Johnson about coming off multiple ACLs.

Fremantle. After 5 years of ignoring pressing positional needs and drafting midfielders/utilities, now find themselves short of midfielders/utilities.

You can't make this up.

That made me laugh, hypen.

To be fair though, we haven't drafted too many really good mids until last year.

Wait and see what the new list manager does.

(I'm a bit worried now. My autocorrect called him a lousy manager. Hope that's not an omen)

Lee MJ and Danyle leaving will open up some salary room. And um wait for it .... 211 if he saw that we picked up some class might just pull the pin and settle for an off field role.

Jooter are you serious in calling Lobb that overused word elite? If he was we would be expected to hand over a top 10 pick for him which won't happen.
Elite big men are Grundy and Gawn and he's nowhere near their class.

Neale is twice as good a Duncan. We are talking about a mid who broke the season record for possessions since stats were recorded. Neale is worth every bit of a 1st round, a second round and steak knives.

For those worried about Lobb. Don't. Streets ahead of any tall forward we have. Great as the 2nd ruck also. Those that question his ability have not watched many GWS games. He is not just a gun, he is a true footballer. Tabs is a great athlete, but not a natural footballer. Apeness shows more as a forward than as a ruck, but he wants to play ruck. He needs to play as a forward.
Jones and Kirsten probably delisted.

Be careful how you used the words natural footballer. Like the word elite. There was a debate about natural footballers and it didn’t go well as you’d expect. HB is both. If only we can get him on the park.

Natural footballers are why people go to the game.
Teams secure an abundance of Moneyball players, but consider this -
Cyril in retirement is still a better footballer than the current Brownlow medalist.

Just having a think about the possible recruitment of Lobb and Hogan. Along with Tabs you'd have three strong marking targets in the forward line. Now I'm no footy brain, but if the afl go with the 6-6-6 set up for each centre bounce, wouldn't this be a good set up?

As an aside, I'd have McCarthy in that forward line as I think he has one of the best foot passes in the team.

While lobb might be a good get at a good price (I am thinking future 2nd round pick) won’t this seriously impact Hodor’s development? I had him penciled in as the forward/ruck whenever Sandi plays and permanent ruck when Sandi is injured/rested.
One thing I know is we can’t play Sandi, Hodor & Lobb in the same team.

Lobb doesn’t want to ruck. That’s why he chose us over WC
