I agree with you, Slammen, regarding Fyfe chasing money and Lachie not being paid his worth to the club.

Good luck to Lachie. Hope he enjoys the Brisbane heat and humidity.

It is plainly obvious that the system coached by Lyon is not working. 14th on the ladder for the last 3 years, and the failure to finish off 2015 due to burnout is testament to that. I don't have inside info on what the players really think of the way they are forced to play, but the lack of enthusiasm they have shown for most of the last 3 years (think Ballas, and the way he used to play compared to now, S Hill ditto, Walters ditto.) leads me to believe they are not enjoying the game as much as some other teams. We see young players come into the side and play their first game or 2 with exuberance, but that dissipates and they become the same bland boring beige/off white/cream/bone color as the rest off the team

7 years at a club that's looked after you? Yes, and no. Maybe his fiancee wants a change of air and a new start somewhere. What is certain, is that it's not solely about him, it's about what else is important in his life, and how best he can support his family.
As for not committing one way or the other, he knows the deal could fall through and he might be playing at Freo another year. He demonstrates loyalty to the club by not demanding a move, at least in public.

It seems to me that players leave for other clubs for the following reasons:
1. Chasing more money
2. Chasing a more successful club
3. Chasing more recognition/opportunity
4. Can’t get into the clubs top 22
5. Can’t see any future/ success at current club
6, Cant stand the coach/administration

Regarding LN I don’t think it’s 1-4 so it’s a bit dissappointing if it’s 5 or 6....... heads should roll!

Jason your comment "However, what we haven’t seen is the mass exodus of players that one would expect from a club in ‘crisis’ - who have stopped listening to their coach."
We have had a mass exodus of players in the past three years for several different reasons.
Roughly thirty players.

So basically everything opposite to how Gaff sees in his club. Well done LN I now understand.

Has that been confirmed, Tragic?

Managing personality clashes is really a role for team management and you would hope that it wouldn't result in required players leaving.

Snail and Tragic succintly put, actually I would say that all apply in this case, except pt. 4 and maybe 6. Maybe. LN has acknowledged Anthony Rock after all.

Geez, personality clashes. LN best learn how to cope with that issue if he thinks going to another club is going to be smooth sailing. I hope that is just one of many speculation that isn’t true.

Gaff is not going to live in Melbourne because he may bump into Angus Brayshaw in a dark, dark laneway.

This is from over 5 years ago. Lachie grew and bloomed and will leave prolly but we are still really waiting for Tab to arrive.
larkin Re: Viv 5 years 2 months ago #34
We were always going to beat Adelaide but I guess you can only play so many apprentices in the one game. Neale is a keeper. Tabs was needed for height - I guess - and the other bloke hasn't dishonoured his service. So he just has to wait. There is no one else he could have replaced...this week.

Yeti, unfortunately your response is much like many of your posts. Totally subjective and relying on unprovable variables as ‘evidence’ to support your minority views.

I never said Lyon had or has an elite group of players to work with. That’s usually the domain of the Lyon-haters to mitigate the success we achieved under him from 2012-15.

In fact, myself and plenty of others have pointed out many times that Lyon inherited a ‘working class’ list that he managed to extract maximum effort from in order to get us our maiden and only GF appearance and McClelland Trophy.

Since (and I’d argue, before) he’s became head coach, the List Management has been poor aside from the past 2 seasons and the fact that almost every player we’ve delisted since 2012 has disappeared from the AFL landscape backs that opinion up.

There are a few that have gone onto be good players elsewhere - Menegola, Roberton (home sick) & De Boer - and a few traded/free agents like Weller, Mayne & Crozier are going ok elsewhere too - but we’ve used their compensation/draft picks to bring in blokes like BHill , Wilson & Brayshaw - all improvements on what we had.

Out of 49 delistings since 2011, only 3, are still on another AFL club list. Another 4 (Broughton, Silvagni, Mzungu & Barlow) were picked up by other clubs but all those have since been let go.

From a trading perspective, we’ve traded out 5 players in that period and they have played a combined total of 102 games for their respective clubs - that’s an average of 2.5 games per season, per traded player. As an aside, 39 of those games were from last season trades Weller & Crozier.

So any objective analysis would suggest that the players drafted by us and subsequently let go are, in the majority, not up to AFL standard. That includes a first round draft pick (Simpson) and several second and third round selections.

Some will no doubt try and argue Lyon ‘ruined’ them for anyone else - and that would also fit into the MO of trying to make a personal opinion fact by proposing a hypothetical scenario that can’t be factually assessed.

I also used the term ‘fake’ supporter as a general term for those who I believe claim to be Freo supporters but who do nothing but criticise the club and pine for days or yore when losing playing ‘attractive’ footy in different coloured jumpers was better than winning playing ‘ugly’ footy in ‘rebranded’ jerseys. Go ask a broad cross section of fans if they enjoyed being 0-9 in 2001 more than 9-0 in 2015?? But if some feel slighted by its use - I guess if the shoe fits....

On a positive note, it looks like Gaff has committed to WC on a long term contract so the planning to exact retribution upon the soulless coward at the next Derby can now begin.

That also counts WC out of the race for one of Lobb or Kelly as they won’t have the draft picks to get both.

mac, the club bit the bullet 2 years ago and decided to clean out what was a very ordinary list.

So whilst you are correct in stating many players have left - it wasn’t their choice and most of them are now playing State/Amateur leagues - if at all.

Not sure how you can draw the conclusion from that the players left because they didn’t like the coach but why let facts get in the road of a bitter attack upon a club official? It’s the number one sport on this forum now, sadly.
