Hogan was outstanding this season before a foot injury sidelined him ahead of the Demons' finals campaign, kicking 47 goals in 20 games despite regularly being played up the ground.

152 goals in 71 games and is now just 23 years old.

He is originally from WA.

I just bloody hope we can get a deal done.

Is that really a concern Shane? Tabs would start in the 50, with Hogan playing more of a true CHF role, but they would switch depending on match-ups. If you thought we could play three talls, you could add Cox, or send him down back.

I reckon having Hogan would add another 10 or 20 goals a season to Tabs season tally. I wouldn't be surprised if over the course of a season Hogan was the more valuable player, but Tabs kicked more goals.

Given Tabs hasn't made double figure games the last couple of years, having another tall option couldn't hurt.

Ok, so Hoges is coming home and we want to put the #29 on his back - boy, lucky this news is coming up before the membership renewal period.

Do the deal Belly!
The number of goals by our leading goal kicker for the last 4 years has been 38, 36, 25 and 22, with Walters the leader for 3 of them.
None of our current forwards are anywhere near the same class as Hogan.
If this deal is live we just have to get it done...and now. A bogan in the hand is worth two in the bush.
I would give up any player currently on our list (except Fyfe) or future player to get it over the line.

Anyone thinking that we should wait and try to grab Hoges next year is crazy. You don't give people time to think of reasons not to come. You do the deal.

I think this means Neale will probably go. If he wanted to stay he would have signed a new deal. He hasn't and now the cap space will go elsewhere.

I think if we can keep a pick in the top ten and get Hogan whilst only losing Neale it will be the steal of the century.

I have seen the permutations of teams and people worried about fitting players like Cox into the team. Seriously you need redundancy. You need 30 players with extra in each line. I doubt many teams ever get their top 22 on the park. If you have McCarthy, logue, Cox, Apeness, and the rest all vying for playing time we'll be doing a lot better.

My one concern is quality smalls in the forward line. So our draft pick will be interesting. Do we try for a flashy half forward or bolster the midfield we have just lost Neale from.

This is like a Hogan thread from 2015, and 16, and 17...

The news article is probably a cut n paste of the same.

IMHO
Never been that into the guy to be honest.Spent a fair bit of time injured, seen him go crook at his own players and drop his bundle when dees were carp. Also may have potential long term health issues-although I sincerely hope not.
However, I do value the overwhelming dockerlander opinion that this guy has more upside than down and statistically is good for about 2.5 goals a game. So im getting abit keen. I'm not sure id trust Greg "the venom" Denham as a reliable 1st source. We shall see.
If this eventuates, I just hope the coach plays Tabs,Hogan and Walters up front all game,. If i was opp coach or defender id be loving when your only really dangerous small and best contested marking tall are on the ball-It frustrates me no end.
Compliment these guys with the 3rd tall and potential swingman in Cox, plus I reckon young Switzy who shows plenty of pace and vigor(kicking is work in progress) and draft best half fwd remaining (Hill? Or even Rankine) and I think we have real potential to improve.

Bring on the Trade Period!!!!

Bizkits reflections about Hogan running around on the halfback flank jibed with my thoughts just before I read this piece.
I'm not convinced that the deal if ever completed, would be the success one would hope for. We drafted a couple of outstanding prospects last year, why not continue this year in what is supposed to be a super draft?

Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but if we get pick 5 for Neale, would we be willing to trade pick 5 and 6 for Hogan? A bird in the hand, worth two in the draft?
