TOPIC: The Rory Story

Im no draft expert, only having watched the highlights on youtube. If I could choose one guy at our pick 6 I think I would go for that small forward to help Walters out. Unless there was a definite ELITE KPF still in the draft, (not the Kings, they cant even kick) I really believe, especially if he could be teamed with Bennell that he would be just the tonic in speed, kicking skills and decision making we need in the forward line. Izak Rankine for me looks like the next Toby Greene/Luke Breust and I want him!.

Yeah nah. Would be handy for that contested mark on the wing and is more mobile than Darcy at this point but would cost too much.
I’m so pleased to see Dixon mentioned in this conversation. Ripper bloke and with an uninterrupted pre season I hope he gets a run at it.

Coniglio hates us, well documented.

Not coming here.

Lobb is no answer. We have seen that if the ball is delivered correctly, to advantage at least, then Tab or Cox...or even Mac, can mark it. So, skill and speed in the mids to deliver the ball...and that ol' chestnut: a more aggressive switch to attack mode from our famous defence/pressure game.

agree with that freo66. I also know that for a fact.
When drafted by GWS he tried the Wingard ploy of saying Dont draft me. I will go to WCE first chance I get..
Lobb is open to Freo however and was keen on coming before last contract..

I rate Lobb highly also but fear we would have to pay overs..happy to let him go and concentrate on the draft.

Forget Lobb, forget McGovern. I'd like to see an exciting mid with goal kicking nous.
I'd also like to see Dixon's skills on display in 2019... and a forward line that plays in the forward line.

I don't think Lobb offers any more than Apeness except a slightly better injury history. Albeit that could change with Lobb carrying a dodgy back atm and an average injury history himself. He's probably slightly more mobile than the Ape but not as strong in the contest which is more important for us.

The problem is he would cost an arm and a leg and we in no way can afford it. If he were a free agent and we had money sitting there wasting away then I'd say go for it but we can't give up our draft picks for him, that's stupid when we're rebuilding. Even more so when he's not an answer to any of our problems.

Ben King's set shot kicking is pretty average but it can be worked upon. It's every other part of his game that excites. He creates 10 shots on goal a game and slots half of them which is still a great effort. He also brings others into the game as the opposition have to pay him far more attention. Teach him a settled set shot routine and he'll be one of the great KPF's of this century. Lukosius is the one I'd want anyway.

I'd be perfectly happy with Rankine too. As mentioned he is absolute class and power. Every game he puts on a show and he'd sure help get crowds in and add some spice to the Freo line up that's been sorely missed under RL. I don't think there's a bad video out there on youtube and watching his SANFL games, he loves the rough stuff with bigger bodies. He'd be my pick for the Rising Star next year, just watch him go.

Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Lobb would be good but Fremantle would have to pay overs and it’s not worth it. However, I question those that think we are okay in the ruck. When Sandi went down Fremantle struggled big time in this position. Darcy was okay towards the end of the season but was also injured a fair bit and is still developing. Jones came in and struggled and Apeness is not only injured alot but I have serious doubts he is an afl footballer.

The Slime need Lobb more than we do. He will
their number 1 ruck next year. They will have picks galore too with Gaff and Lycett moving on.

I think everyone is blinkered into getting a KPF. I think we have what we need already and need to develop it. What we don't have is classy small forward types that can tackle. Richmond use them, the Eagles drafted 2 last year and its been a huge improvement for them. Geelong's have been injured all year and it shows in there forward pressure numbers. Personally the focus is another classy mid and 1-3 small forwards/half fwd flankers.

All the good teams are playing an improved version of us circa 2013. Insane pressure. Roly just needs another pre-season or two with our young group and he will have them playing finals.

We need an injury-free Brady Grey tackling machine. He is still young and we keep giving away these types (de Boer) or delisting them

Love Brady Grey but he doesn't have the X factor I am thinking. Like a Rioli (any of them) or Ryan

Our X-factor is HB. He makes both Rioli and Ryan, looking ordinary. And that’s where the excitement ends until HB gets on the park. If there’s one thing I like to see next year is Harley revving up for 22 H&A games. I’d pay anything just to watch that kid play. So, we’ve got pressure small forwards, pick 6 will have to be something very special to get me excited.
